Year 8 Medieval Day
Majesty. His Holiness the Bishop. My Lords and my Ladies. Ladies and gentlemen. It is with great pleasure I recap for you the many joyous moments experienced during this year's medieval day. Medieval Day is of course an annual event with a long and prestigious history at Bayside Christian College.
My favourite part is the morning as students arrive and we get to see the many and varied costumes and hear the stories of long hours sewing and knitting and/or pursuing the best costume deal online. As usual, we had many princesses, knights and peasants. This year also brought us a cupbearer, a plague doctor, a Cardinal and a Bishop.
The workshops took students through the stories of Law and Justice in the Middle Ages. Students took turns being tried for various crimes against the community, complaining about the king, spreading gossip and even murder. Students played the games medieval children would play and trained for the king's army with bows and arrows.
The pinnacle of Medieval Day is the Tournament and Feast. Our students got to fight a knight in shining armour. I am sad to say that once again, another year has passed with our students bravely failing to vanquish the knight. The Feast of St Perpetua and St Felicity ends the day. The students got to role-play a religious feast with prayers, sermons and a ceremonial washing of the hands.
Medieval day is done for another year. Congratulations to everyone on their amazing costumes and participation in the workshops.

Year 11 VCE PE
Year 11 students in Unit 1 of VCE PE focuses on human anatomy and physiology, particularly in relation to its effect on athletic performance. Students have begun their Area of Study 2 studies by investigating the structure of the heart as part of the cardiorespiratory system. As part of this on Friday 15 March students dissected the heart, to better visualise its structures in a practical manner. Students enjoyed this opportunity, with some getting creative after completing the set practical investigation steps.

Senior Secondary Assembly
We were privileged to hear from Charlie Matheson and Cooper speak to our Year 11/12 students in our newly covered amphitheatre Tuesday morning on North Campus. The young men reflected on their school years and described the way God has encountered their lives and brought them into a place of purpose and discipleship. It was encouraging to hear from young people who are strong in their faith and are prepared to share their lives with our students.

Easter Community Market
We had our first community market early in Term 1 to catch the secondary students before they head off on camps. We had 22 stalls from Primary, Secondary and VM students and it was a brilliant time for our school community to come together. The money from the VM stalls along with the $10 stall fee gave us the opportunity to pay three and a half months of sponsorship for Riri, Anton and Krisna. This is such a blessing to be able to support these wonderful people, their families and churches in Indonesia and is the main driving force for the work required to run the markets. The Winter community market will be held on Thursday 20 June. A huge thanks goes to Justin Mason for his tireless efforts in setting up for the market each term.

Senior Girls SIS Basketball
The Bayside senior girls basketball team played their final game on Thursday 14 March at Woodleigh. In what was their most cohesive team effort on both offence and defence, Bayside came away 31-8 winners for the first time in the 4 game season. Over the course of the season, Bayside’s defensive efforts were a highlight, allowing the 2nd fewest points by a team across the season. Another highlight was Maddie Gascard scoring at least one 3 point shot every match. Overall it was a very enjoyable season for Bayside’s first experience in senior SIS sport.

Staff Vs Students Volleyball
It’s almost the end of the term which means it’s time for a Staff Vs Students challenge! This week, our students bought their A-game to the volleyball court. Unfortunately for the students, our teachers were just too good at blocking, bumping, serving and spiking and took the victory.
