There's Glory in Suffering

Then Jesus said to his disciples, “Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves and take up their cross and follow me." - Matthew 16:24

From the tender age of my childhood, my heart has been captivated by the love of Jesus. To me, He is not merely a distant figure but my closest confidant, my steadfast companion, the one in whom I place my utmost trust. I can vividly recall the walks home from Primary school, singing songs of praise to Him, pouring out my thoughts and emotions as if He were right beside me. In those moments, there was an intimacy and connection that knew no bounds. I revelled in contemplating the resurrected Jesus—the radiant beacon of hope, the triumphant victor over all darkness.

As I've journeyed through life and gained wisdom with age, I've come to perceive a glimmer of hope and even joy amidst suffering. Let me be clear: I do not seek out suffering, nor do I relish it. If given the choice, I would certainly choose to avoid it altogether. However, upon reflection, I've realised that my most challenging moments have often been catalysts for profound growth and transformation. Through adversity, I've found myself strengthened in faith, enriched in relationships—particularly in marriage and parenting—imbued with greater patience and empathy, and endowed with a deeper capacity to walk alongside others in their own trials.

As Christians we never have to suffer alone or in vain. God gave us His Spirit to live in us, acting as comforter and helper through trials (see John 14:15-20). He actively heals and guides us through suffering, reminding us that we are "persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed" (2 Corinthians 4:9).

We don't have to seek them out or take joy in the pain. Even Jesus asked if the greatest suffering He endured—separation from the Father—could be taken from Him (see Luke 22:41-42). Rather, like Christ, we look to the joy set before us: God the Father. The key to finding true contentment, peace, and joy amidst hardship is seeking God and surrendering to His will. He alone is good, supplying our every need in every season according to His perfect knowledge and eternal love.

Suffering will come. But through the power of the Holy Spirit living in us, we can rise above our temporary circumstances, however painful they may be. For, we joyfully anticipate a new heaven and earth, where there will be no more darkness or pain—where we will forever revel in the city lit eternally by the glory of God.

Primary Grandparents Day

Prep - Year 6 students would like to invite their grandparents or 'special friend' for a classroom visit on Wednesday 27 March. Our guests will be able to enjoy classroom activities from 9.00am to 9:50am followed by morning tea from 10.00am to 10:45am in G-Block hosted by our Primary Hospitality Team.

Check-in Procedure

Upon arrival, please proceed directly to your child's classroom to sign-in on the provided coloured sheet. You will only need to sign-in once, even if you plan to visit multiple classrooms. These sign-in sheets will then be transferred to the G-Building staffroom, where you can sign-out before departing from the college. Your children eagerly look forward to showcasing their learning experiences, sharing stories, and creating cherished memories with you.

Primary Easter Worship Assembly

It is with great pleasure that we invite you to our final assembly, which will be an Easter Worship Assembly on Thursday 28 March (final day of Term 1) in G-Block Primary Gym at 9:05am.

There will be ample seating in the gym. Could you please not block the aisles or the doorways as these will be needed during the worship assembly.

The students will be taking us on a journey through Holy Week, accompanying Jesus through His passion and resurrection. We invite you to join in with the singing and responses.

Just a reminder that school finishes at 2:30pm on Thursday 28 March.

Primary Learning Support

The Primary Learning Support team works across all classes in Prep to Year 6, supporting the learning and development of our students with disabilities and additional needs. We aim to make learning and classroom experiences accessible to every student.

Throughout the bustling school day, you'll find our Learning Support team in action, their dedication evident as they engage with small groups or provide individualised assistance to students, scaffolding on topics being taught by the classroom teacher. They are another pair of hands to help guide, nurture and facilitate our students' love of learning through positive interactions, relationships and sharing the love of Christ.

As the Primary Learning Support Coordinator, I work alongside the Head of Learning Support, Miss Josephine Hopkins. We also have an exceptional team of Learning Assistants working alongside classroom teachers:

  • Mrs Eira Unsworth
  • Miss Evelyn Easanesan
  • Mrs Sheree Astuto
  • Mrs Karina Hooper
  • Mrs Lauren Van Rooyen
  • Mrs Brenda Healey
  • Mrs Naomi Armstrong
  • Mr Morgan Ivory

Each member brings a unique set of skills, experiences, and passions to the team, enriching the support we provide to our students and families.

We look forward to partnering with you and serving our Bayside community.

God bless,

Louise Van Niekerk, Primary Learning Support Coordinator

Celebrating Our Amazing Swimming Champions!

Our Year 3-6 students dazzled at the Northern Division Swimming Competition held at YAWA Rosebud on Tuesday 12 March. With 14 competitors displaying exceptional talent and determination, we couldn't be prouder!

The day witnessed remarkable individual performances in Freestyle, Breaststroke, Backstroke, and Butterfly. However, the relay events stole the spotlight, particularly the 4 x 50m Freestyle relay for our aged 12/13 year old girls and both the Medley and Freestyle relay races for the boys in the same age group. It was a fantastic effort by all involved. Their triumphs stand as a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support from their families and peers.

Congratulations to our swimming champions! Remember to check out the amazing photos capturing their moments of glory!

A couple of student responses from the day:

  • “It was a great day! I loved swimming the relay with my mates. It was so much fun!!!”
  • “I surprised myself. I swam better than I thought!”
  • “Swimming is always so much fun!”
