Series #3: Ready to Learn Plans
Continuing in our series of pro-active approaches to increase student engagement, today we look at Ready to Learn Plans.
A Ready to Learn Plan is a pre-arranged deal between student and teacher to provide a student with de-escalating and self-regulating strategies. It is very difficult for a student to learn and think rationally if feeling disregulated, stressed or anxious. Their individualised Ready to Learn Plan provides a pre-approved list of strategies the student can turn to without needing to ask for approval.
Teachers met this week to collaboratively brainstorm ideas for 'calming' and 'energising' strategies students can employ in order to be 'Ready to Learn'.
Teacher Brainstorm Session Completed Ready to Learn Plan
Starting in Term 2, students will explore which of the stratgies work best for them and will select 3-5 to include in their own Ready to Learn Plan. The strategies will be explicitly taught (e.g. 'butterfly breathing') and expectations will be agreed upon for when and how to use the strategies.
Please do not hesitate to contact your child's teacher, Mrs Meadows or Ms Weissenburger more more information.
Many of these strategies are great to use at home as well!
