Numeracy at Skye

At Skye, we're deeply engaged in providing rich, authentic problem-solving tasks that cater to a wide range of learners and abilities.

Our approach involves introducing students to various mathematical vocabulary relevant to the task at hand. We unpack questions thoroughly and then give students the chance to explore and apply their knowledge across four key math proficiencies: Fluency, Understanding, Problem-solving, and Reasoning.

Students collaborate, discussing their strategies and thoughts with peers, while also having the opportunity to work with manipulatives hands-on. We encourage them to demonstrate their thinking in multiple ways, fostering a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts.

Have a go at one of our problem-solving tasks with your children at home:

For fluency development, we recognize the importance of mental math strategies. To support this, we recommend checking out the Michael Minus Love maths site, where you can find engaging fluency games to try at home with your children.

Send in your solution/s to the Pinocchio Problem Solving Task. Each submission earns your child a Dojo point!
