Dear Skye Families,
Once again, we have plenty to share in this final newsletter edition for Term 1!
We are excited to extend an invitation to all parents to connect with their child/ren's Class Dojo account. This platform is integral to our School Wide Positive Behaviour Support approach, recognising and reinforcing the positive actions of our students from Foundation to Year 6. Through Class Dojo, we can share instant feedback on students demonstrating the expected behaviours, fostering a supportive and engaged learning environment. Look out for your invitation and join us in celebrating our students' achievements.
Our dedication to parent involvement shone brightly this week with our inaugural Parent Helpers Course, led by our Assistant Principal, Kim Weissenburger. The session, aimed at parents of Year 1 and 2 students, provided insights into our explicit phonics program, Little Learners Love Literacy. A heartfelt thank you to the numerous parents who participated. For those interested in volunteering but were unable to attend, please stay tuned for another session in Term 2. Your involvement is invaluable to our school’s success.
This week marked the Annual General Meeting of our School Council. We extend our warmest welcome to the new councillors and congratulate Rachael Dekker (President), Chantelle Richards (Vice President), and Janelle Forster-Wilson (Treasurer) on their elected positions. A future newsletter will feature a photo of all School Council members, helping to familiarise them with our school community.
With a significant portion of the footpath now fenced off, the Ballarto Road upgrade has impacted the commute of some of our students and families. Please be assured that we are in communication with VicRoads, advocating for traffic control measures to ensure the safety of our families during these works. Your patience and understanding during this time are greatly appreciated.
We bid a fond farewell to Kate Perrins at the end of this term, who, after a remarkable tenure at Skye Primary School since 1999, is embarking on a new journey in Queensland. Kate's contributions have left an indelible mark on our school, and she will be greatly missed. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.
In other staffing news, Helen Meadows will increase her time fraction to become our full-time Disability and Inclusion Coordinator, and we congratulate Krystal Anderson on her appointment as the Acting English Learning Specialist for 2024.
As we reflect on a term well spent, we look forward with anticipation to the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead. Here's to a restful and rejuvenating holiday break when it arrives, and to the adventures that awaits us in Term 2.
Thanks for your ongoing support.
Warm regards,
Tim
