Connect: Year 4

March 2024

Important Dates

Literacy

The students have been busily working on their EXCITING narratives! The level of descriptive and figurative language used has blown us away. Over the next week our focus will be on editing and publishing our stories and reading them to our peers. We are also delving into comparing a variety of texts and identifying the evidence that tells us the author's purpose (Persuade, Inform, Entertain).

Maths

Our focus has been on learning and consolidating addition and subtraction strategies. The idea behind learning a variety of strategies is to identify the most efficient strategy for the individual. We recognise that every learner is different and love giving our students the tools to decide what works best for them. You may wish to ask your children to demonstrate their learning by rolling some dice to generate their equation and choosing their most efficient and accurate strategy.

Wellbeing

As part of the Berry Street Education Model we have been learning about what being ready to learn looks like, feels like and sounds as well as what it does not look like, feel like and sound like. Students are in the process of identifying what that looks like to them and thinking of strategies they can use to assist them in being ready to learn. We will be continuing this learning in Term 2. Our Ready to Learn scales that the students have created will play a vital role in their independent emotional regulation. It also allows for us as teachers to have a quick check in with each student.

Harmony Day

Yesterday, Thursday 21st we celebrated Harmony Day at Skye Primary School. Harmony Day celebrates Australia’s cultural diversity. Harmony Day is about including, respecting and appreciating the stories, traditions and cultures of all people who call Australia home. In Grade 4 we created our own individual, unique tiles in celebration of Harmony Day that will be displayed as a Mosaic in our Grade 4 Patch.

Wow! We can't believe how fast Term 1 has flown. Well done to each and every one of our Grade 4's who have started the year with a bang.

Rest, relax and have the most fantastic School Holidays!
