Connect: Year 2

Hello families. We can't believe it is almost the end of Term 1! We have had the most amazing start to the year and have loved getting know all of the Grade Twos. We finish up the term next Thursday, the 28th of March, at 2:30pm to head into the Easter Weekend.

Classroom Helpers- Thank you to those who came to the classroom helper training session. We were so happy to see such a good turnout. It really helps the students and the teachers to have the extra support. If you missed it speak to Kim Weissenburger.

Check out what's been happening in the Grade Two classrooms below!

  • Please send in your child's reading satchel everyday as we can help them choose books for home or add any important information.

  • Please keep an eye out for a Dojo link asking you to join our class to see your childs progress.

What we are learning in Grade 2

Literacy

Students have been learning to read, write and say words with the 'or and aw' sounds. We have been exploring parts of speech and creating word banks we have explored the meaning of unknown words and searched for definitions to use in our alliteration poems.

We also celebrated Dr Seuss day where students attended in a touch of Seuss each class explored a Dr Seuss text and created a craft that is displayed in our school library.

2A explored 'The Cat in the Hat'

2B investigated: 'Horton hears a who'

2C focused on 'Oh the places you'll go'

2D looked into 'The Lorax'

Numeracy

During Maths students have been exploring Place Value up to four-digit numbers, gathering, collecting and representing data. Grade Twos are still engaging in our authentic Problem-Solving lessons where they have investigated Hundreds Charts and the idea of skip counting.

Our students have enjoyed completing 'Esti-Mysteries' as a warm-up to our Maths problem-solving lessons. Check this one out below and use the 100's chart to help you solve the mystery!

 Wellbeing

Term One has the Wellbeing focus of 'Help Seeking.' Students have been developing their ability and strategies to find help when they are in need of support, and learning to recognise when to offer others help. We have also explored the Zones of Regulation and students are developing their ability to articulate what zone they are in and share why. Students are continuing to earn Dojo points for displaying the Skye Primary School values relating to Respect, Responsibility, Resilience and Relationship.

Inquiry

In Inquiry, we will continue exploring our Term 1 Topic: Growing Older & Wiser. This topic explores the concept of identity and encourages students to take responsible risks and monitor their own thinking (known as metacognition).

Thank you all for a great start to the year.
