YEAR 10 INFORMATION SYSTEMS UPDATE: TERM 2

This term, our students in Information Systems have made significant strides in their coding journey. They have been mastering Python using GROK Learning, a platform tailored to their skill Levels. They then delved into the fascinating world of networks, exploring the hardware and software that underpins the Internet, mobile phones, and satellite communications, as well as how data is transmitted. They are currently honing their skills in a second programming language, LUA, and collaborating in teams to create games using Roblox Studio. We are proud of their achievements and look forward to their continued progress.

This is what some of the students have said about 10ISY this Term:

This term, to gain a strong foundation in programming, we started our adventure with Python by utilising GROK for Levels 1 and 2. We set aside time to practice problem-solving and coding.

Furthermore, we could work on networking by studying different topics, such as network infrastructures, topologies, and protocols. It was a great and useful experience.

Later, we switched to Robolox Studio’s LUA language to create our games and investigate networking. I had the idea to team up with my friends to make a game on combat. This helped us grasp several programming languages and gave us real-world experience in creating games and programming.

In Term 2, we continued our programming journey. We started with Python using GROK for levels 1 and 2. Python is a versatile programming language used in various fields. We also learnt about networking. This allowed us to connect players and enable multiplayer functionality in our game as we explored game development in Roblox Studio using LUA. I am working with Mahesh Krishnamurthy, Jiithhin Sriramulu and Tri Than to create a combat game in Roblox. We are designing levels and programming characters' movements.

In information systems, we have learned various coding techniques for Python programming through the Grok platform. I particularly enjoyed this subject area as it allows me to learn interactively and with the help of my classmates. After this, we moved on to networking, providing us with the various components and technology that go into networking. Now, with the skills we have learned, we are attempting to create a game using the Roblox platform. My team is making a horror game that hopefully will create a scary and interactive experience.

Students will hopefully move on to further studies next year in VCE, such as Applied Computing, Software Development or Data Analytics.
