NAIDOC Week

Celebrating the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People

This week we celebrated NAIDOC week at school with a range of events and programs for all students and staff to engage with and learn from. NAIDOC Week is a celebration of the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. Every year NAIDOC Week celebrations are centred on a particular theme. This year the theme was “Keep the Fire Burning! Blak, Loud and Proud”.

Events included a dedicated Connect lesson focusing on this year’s theme and the history of the day. We had lunchtime events including a film screening and First Nations music. The library made an excellent display of First Nations books, and a massive thank you to ‘Clothing The Gaps’ for donating iron on transfers for students to customise their very own NAIDOC ally t-shirts.

We finished the week with a Free Dress day with students wearing colours that celebrate the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander flags, gold coin donations went to Aboriginal Housing Victoria and we raised over $750 on the day.
