Student Achievement : Basketball National Championships

Year 10 student and talented basketballer, Alex Mabbott was part of the U16 Victoria Metro state basketball team that won the gold medal last week in the U16 National Championships. Vic Metro had a resounding 93-53 win over NSW Metro, with Alex being a key contributor with 16 points and 14 rebounds in the grand final. He also was the second top scorer for this winning team over the course of the week-long nationals.

Alex was also part of the 2023 Vic Metro U16 team who won the gold medal at last year’s tournament. This year’s win is the latest in a series of basketball tournament victories for Alex, which includes a win at both the National Classic and at the Eltham Dandenong Tournaments with his reps club, the Nunawading Spectres. 

Alex has been awarded a National Performance Program (NPP) scholarship throughout 2024 and has been invited to participate in a 4 day NPP graduation camp in late September at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra.
