French News: Quoi de neuf?

Madame Anders

Bonjour tout le monde! Hello everyone. Here are some examples of student learning across the school in French.

Also, a reminder that some exciting French related events are approaching. July 14 is ‘La Fête Nationale’, or what we know as ‘Bastille Day’, commemorating the beginning of the French Revolution. The Alliance Française run a special family friendly Bastille Day Festival at the Victoria Market across the weekend of July 13-14. Check out the program here: https://www.bastilledaymelbourne.com/

The Jeux Olympiques (Olympic Games) begin in Paris on July 26th. The opening ceremony should be amazing. Check out the program here: https://olympics.com/en/paris-2024/the-games/ceremonies/opening-ceremony

Prep: The prep students have settled in very well and are speedily picking up some useful basics. Currently we have started learning about colours and feelings, using the book ‘Les Couleurs des Émotions’.

Years 1&2: Students have been learning about the names of the days of the week and how to say how old they are. In French you say that you HAVE a number of years (I have 7 years – J’ai sept ans).

Year 3: The Years 3s did a fabulous job this term creating their own family trees in French. Here are a couple of examples:

Year 4: The year 4 students performed exceptionally well in the Berthe Mouchette Poetry Competition. 21 students achieved ‘excellent’ (19-19.5/20), 10 achieved très bien (17-18.5/20) and 23 achieved ‘satisfaisant’ (10 – 13.5/20). Zac Graves, having achieved a perfect score, recited the poem a second time in the finals last weekend. Chapeau! (Bravo!) Students were also able to illustrate the poem for the competition. Here are some beautiful drawings of ‘Mon vélo est blanc’ (My bike is white):

Years 5&6: This term the 5/6 students worked hard on a research project about a francophone country. Some terrific information was shared about counties such as Canada, Vanuatu, Madagascar, Chad and Belgium, just to name a few.
