News from the Chicken Coop
Thank you to the Dennis and Ballestrin families for looking after our gorgeous feathered friends over the last few weekends. We really appreciate your support.
URGENT! Volunteers Needed for School Holidays - Saturday 6 July to Sunday 14 July
If you would like to volunteer to do chicken duty for the upcoming school holidays please let me know. The dates we need to fill are from Saturday 6th July to 14 July. You will only need to pop up to visit the chickens once a day to check their water and food. It’s really easy and the kids love it! Duty families get to keep all the yummy eggs they collect. An information sheet will be provided with all the details prior to your duty. If you would like to put your name on the roster please email Mel at mkerwin@sjmitcham.catholic.edu.au with your preferred dates. First in, first choice of dates!
Egg Lotto
For your chance to win 1 dozen eggs just buy an egg lotto ticket. Tickets are only $1 each!
The next Egg Lotto draw will be Friday, 28 June.
Tickets are available to buy at any time, just bring your money into school and the Environment Leaders will help you out. We usually sell tickets in front of the school on Wednesday afternoons from 3:10-3:20pm, selling tickets to students, parents, grandparents and carers.
All the money we make is put back into buying food and other necessities for our chickens. There will be a few dozen eggs available to win so get your winning $1 raffle ticket soon!
News from the Garden
Each week, while we sell Egg Lotto tickets we sometimes sell fresh produce from our garden depending on what’s ready to harvest. Our lemons are lovely and juicy so keep an eye out as they are always popular and sell very quickly! Last week we had limes for sale too.
There is always our fabulous Worm Juice available to purchase. Worm Juice is the name our students have given to the liquid we collect from the worm farms which is organic liquid fertiliser. It is packed full of nutrients that gives your garden a much needed boost. Your fruit, vegetables and flowers will all appreciate a special treat of St John’s Worm Juice. Just ask Jenny in the office how much her garden loves Worm Juice! Only $2 for 2 Litres, instructions are provided.
Please ask for it if it’s not on display.
Soft Plastic Reduction Initiative-Part 2
As part of our school wide waste reduction initiative, the Future Leaders in each class have begun keeping a daily tally of lunch boxes that are wrapper free as well as the number of students in the class each day. We will then work out which class has the highest percentage of wrapper free lunch boxes over a two week period. The two classes with the highest percentages will receive class dojo points and one of our Environment mascots that they will keep in their classroom for 2 weeks until the next cycle's winners are determined. Over time we will keep a track of how many lunch boxes are wrapper free and see if we have improved as a school community.

Enjoy the school holidays and see you in Term 3.
