St John's Be Kinder Day

Reflection

This year the students at St John’s have participated in b kinder Day. We have written cards of kindness for some special people in our lives (through the purchase of these cards we donated to the b kinder foundation), some students are even creating stories with a kindness message that will be shared on the b kinder Youtube page. We have all been learning that our actions matter and that we each have the power to make a difference through kindness.

(These are some of the images from the cards that we wrote our messages of kindness in)

The Story Behind b kinder Day

12-year-old Billie Kinder died in a tragic horse accident in May 2016. Billie was an extraordinary girl in that she had the gift of giving. She gave through her smile, her thoughtfulness, her constant acts of kindness and her amazing gift of words. With a play on her name, (b kinder), Billie's legacy has become one of kindness. Through her empathy and insight, Billie’s b kinder foundation empowers and inspires others and reminds all of us that our actions matter and that we each have the power to make a difference through kindness.

Through prevention and early intervention b kinder’s resources help children in their pivotal years by encouraging them to become kinder, more empathetic and more compassionate, helping to significantly reduce severe mental health issues and bullying in children and young people.

It has been such a positive experience and we have been able to join 1000’s of schools across Australia to support this special day. The theme of the foundation is “empowering children to be kinder and more resilient” and we are definitely seeing this in action at St John’s.
