HUMANITIES LEARNING AREA

YEAR 7
Year 7 students at the college have been diving into the ancient world over the course of the semester. First studying ancient Australia, then ancient Egypt and now onto ancient China. As part of the ancient Egypt unit, Year 7 students completed a crime scene investigation into King Tutankhamun’s death. Students needed to collect and understand information and deliver a plausible conclusion as to how the king died.
YEAR 9
The 'world at war' is the focus for Year 9 students during Semester One. They have studied World War I, the interwar years, World War II, and the Holocaust. Students had the opportunity to participate in a virtual reality tour of Auschwitz with Holocaust survivors guiding students through the site. In the final weeks of this term, students will be travelling to Wentworth Military Museum to see the varied collection of military artifacts from a range of different wars.
BUSINESS MANAGEMENT
During Semester One, Unit 1 Business Management students had to plan, organise, and evaluate a business. In the eight weeks leading up to the day, they wrote a business plan, including ordering what they needed, preparing staff rosters, writing a risk assessment, applying for licenses and permits, creating a marketing plan, and more. The students ran their stall on 16 May and then completed an individual evaluation.
As always this was a well-executed, high-energy event where the whole college was involved. Well done to the students and to Mrs Andrea Chamberlain and Miss Paula Cox for coaching the students through this process.

YEAR 10 ECONOMICS AND BUSINESS MANAGEMENT EXCURSION
Students studying Year 10 Business Management and Economics visited the Woolworths Langtree store to observe business marketing and different strategies used by organisations to entice people to buy their products.
Students analysed the effectiveness of our local Woolworths store layout design. Based on their observations, students are preparing a report on supermarket marketing.
