YEARS 7 AND 8 BOYS SOCCER

On Wednesday 22 May, Years 7 and 8 boys and girls competed in the Interschool Soccer Competition.

The Year 7/8 girls had a highly successful day and won all of their group games to progress to the Loddon-Mallee Regional competition, which will take place in Echuca during Week 1 of Term 3.

The Year 7 boys and Year 8 boys faced each other in the first game of the day. With the Year 7 boys scoring first and the scores level (1–1) at half time, the Year 8 boys ran away victors (3–1). The Year 7 boys played another three games, losing one and winning two. Thanks to their winning margin, they will also progress to the LMR competition, but in Week 2 of Term 3.

The Year 8 boys had a very successful day, winning all their games by some margin except for the last game of the day, losing 2–0 to another undefeated team. They played their hearts out, and although the journey ended for them, they cannot be disappointed with their efforts.

All teams played exceptionally well, and we look forward to taking the Year 7/8 girls and Year 7 boys to Echuca in early Term 3.

Thanks to the Years 9 and 10 students who assisted the teams and also to Mr John Fleming and Ms Margie Howie for organising everything.

SUNRAYSIA SOCCER STARS

On the King’s Birthday long weekend, the U14 Sunraysia Boys competed in the Country Leagues Football Championships. The boys emerged as the undefeated victors after a gruelling six games against some of the best teams from the Latrobe Valley, Ballarat, Bendigo, Southwest Victoria, Albury/Wodonga, and Geelong, scoring 4–1, 1–0, 3–0, 1–1, 1–0, 4–0.

In the tournament’s Grand Final, Sunraysia played against Ballarat District Soccer Association. The score in this match remained stubbornly at 0–0, even after extra time. However, after a nail-biting penalty shootout, the Sunraysia boys claimed a 3–1 victory! Brilliant playing, boys! Congratulations on your well-deserved win.

LMR SENIOR GIRLS FOOTBALL

The Senior Girls squad put forth an amazing effort in Bendigo back on 22 May. Although we did not take the match, the girls closed the gap in the last half and put the pressure on the St Joseph's Echuca players.

The Umpires selected Lola Modoo and Milla Tierney as our two best players and congratulated our side on their exemplary conduct and behaviour. We also offer rounds of applause to skilled performances by Neomi Burton, Aysha Burton, Jorja Sapuppo, and Demi Zanoni.

Our Intermediate Girls Division 1 Team (first slide below) took the top spot at the Interschool Netball Division Finals! They advanced to LMR and will next compete in Bendigo during Term 3. Our Division 2 Team (second slide) played expertly all day and finished runners up. Well done to our amazing netball players.

SSVS SENIOR GIRLS NETBALL

Our Senior Girls Team A (first slide) also claimed victory in the Sunraysia Interschool Competition. They now advance to LMR in Term 3. Team B (second slide) played skillfully all day, but unfortunately this year's journey ended for them.

Congratulations to both of these teams for stellar performances on the court.

HPV RACING

EXCELLENT START TO RACING SEASON FOR 2024

What a perfect start to the Human Powered Vehicle racing season at Tailem Bend! Even the weather was perfect.

It was the first time that the college has attempted to race five cars in the mixed school category and it was going to be interesting to see how the students managed to prep the cars prior to starting.

Most of Friday was spent travelling to Tailem Bend, followed by setting up our campsite then enjoying some magnificent food prepared by our canteen ladies and served by the college parents who accompanied us. After our evening meal we always have a race briefing, announce our teams, then look at our race strategies and try to make our new riders comfortable.

The team welcomed along six new riders and presented them with their race shirts. Chloe McCarthy, Amelie Gibson, Jordan Alexander, Amelia Nicholson, Mia Loveridge and Austin Kalms all participated in their first race.

Race day provided us with some fantastic results in both Senior and Middle School Mixed.

Mallee Missile was 2nd and Virtuous was 3rd in the Senior School Category with Darcy Noonan posting the fastest lap time with a 50.4k average.

Resilience was 1st, Sunraysia Star 3rd, and Genesis with the team consisting of the six new riders placing 5th in Middle School category.

Leo Nicholson was the fastest placed rider in the Middle School division with his fastest lap speed averaging 47.5k.

These events do not happen without the amazing support of our parents that assist us during the weekend by preparing our food and helping with site setup and marshalling.

Thanks to the staff that volunteered their weekend to look after us during the event and the wonderful canteen ladies that make those delicious meals for us.

Our next event on the calendar will be the Bend 8-Hour on 5 August.
