Mr Butts' Announcements

Reconciliation Week flag raising ceremony.

Absences = Missing Out.

When students are absent it doesn't take much to miss out being part of a new game or new opportunities to make friends. Friendships can also change quickly and your child may lose contact with their social group. Make sure your child doesn't miss out and prioritise school attendance.

Reconciliation Week

Reconciliation Week was celebrated across the school in many ways last week. We had a lovely breakfast for our indigenous families and a reflection walk with the whole school.

We are very lucky to have Billy at our school, who conducted the smoking ceremony and explained it's significance to the students.

Also thank you to Tahlia for organising indigenous games during lunch breaks.  We are all very lucky to have indigenous staff and students to teach us so much about aboriginal culture and traditions.

First Reconciliation

Congratulations to the students who made their First Reconciliation last week.  It was a beautiful ceremony and Mons Peter explained the importance of forgiveness in our lives and how reconciliation is an integral part of who we are as Catholics. Thanks to Mrs Hicks for organising and to Mrs J Cox for leading the liturgy.

Book Fair

Thank you to those of you who supported our book fair this week.  The sales raised over $1000 that will be used to purchase new library books.  The book fair is organised by Maree Williams each year and thanks to her we have hundreds of books in our library that have been purchased in recent years.

Catholic families MISSING OUT on much needed funding

The Victorian state government recently announced a $400 “School Saver Bonus” handout to all Government school students. This blatantly discriminatory scheme means Catholic school students miss out, while the wealthiest families from state schools receive the money.  Families can sign the petition to show their support for a more equitable School Saving Bonus by visiting: http://fairschoolbonus.com.au/

ICAS Competition

St Mary's Gr 3-6 students are invited to take part in the following ICAS tests again this year:

New Friends!

Keep an eye out for two friendly kookaburras who are often sighted and heard at the front of the school! I shared the photograph's below at this week's assembly.  We are looking for names for them, so if any of the kids come up with something suitable, tell them to let me know!

Before School Supervision

Please note that  all students that arrive at school prior to 8:30am must fill out an application that is explained the letter below.  I appreciate everyone's understanding and cooperation regarding this.
