Principal's Message

Dear Families,

Currently students are very busy completing their Semester 1 exams before beginning Semester 2 work on Tuesday 11th June. Well done to all students for their fantastic efforts and achievements so far this year. Earlier in the term we hosted morning tea to celebrate our mothers and the special motherly figures in our students' lives. Thank you to those who were able to attend, it was wonderful to spend time with some of our school families.

The end of Term 2 is fast approaching and the wintry weather has set in. I remind all families that students should be wearing their winter uniform which includes a college tie for all students. There are also college scarves available at PSW. A reminder that second hand uniform items can be bought and sold via www.sustainableschoolshop.com.au.

I wish all of our school community a relaxing holiday break after such a busy term. A reminder that students will be dismissed at 1.30pm on Friday 28th June and Term 3 begins on Monday 15th July.

Congratulations Mr Lawicki

A huge congratulations to Mr Lawicki who has been recognised by the Department for 55 years of service to education. Mr Lawicki teaches Specialist Mathematics and Mathematical Methods at our Senior Campus. We thank him dearly for his dedication to our students and the College.

Cancer Council Biggest Morning Tea

Our staff raised $1160 for the Cancer Council recently! Thank you to our generous teachers and education support staff who donated and brought food to share for the Biggest Morning Tea at both campuses on Thursday 24th May.

Foodbank and Breakfast Club

The school continues to receive regular deliveries from Foodbank, and we make this food available to students for free every day at lunch time at all three campuses. Breakfast Club also runs at all three campuses on Wednesdays and Fridays. Students may speak to the Student Wellbeing team for more details.

Trent Toelau - NRL Debut

It is with great pleasure that we announce that past VUSC Rugby Academy student Trent Toelau made his NRL debut for the Penrith Panthers on Saturday 1st June against the St George Dragons.

Trent graduated from VUSC in 2017 and has since moved to Sydney to further his Rugby League career. Through persistence and a lot of hard work Trent has finally made the big time and it will be very exciting to watch him play. I am sure he has fond memories of his time at VUSC. Congratulations Trent!

Parking Around the School

Families are reminded not to use the school's driveway to drop off or pick up their children, as this creates a lot of congestion and long wait times, particularly for staff and school buses that are trying to enter the school.

Families are also asked to drop off or pick up their children on Nobel Banks Drive or further down Ken Jordan Rd at the Senior Campus instead of double parking in front of the gate. This is both illegal and causes a lot of congestion on the road, we have had some near misses lately.

Students are reminded to use the school crossings at both campuses for their safety.

IDAHOBIT Day

On May 24th, the College acknowledged the International Day Against Homophobia, Biphobia, Intersexism and Transphobia (IDAHOBIT Day). This is a very important part of our school calendar as it is a time where we celebrate diversity and call out discrimination towards members of the LGBTIQ+ community. IDAHOBIT Day is also a time where we publicly stand beside our LGBTIQ+ colleagues, mates and students with a clear message:  “We stand with you!” On the day the SRC students and leaders organised a lunchtime pride day. Students also explored the importance of IDAHOBIT day and completed activities in their Homegroup classes. As a wider community, there are still issues LGBTQ+ young people face, and we all have a role to play in making our school and wider community a safer and more inclusive space.

Year 10 Career Panel Event

Ms Muratore, our Careers Coordinator has organised a Year 10 Careers Panel event on Tuesday 23rd July from 2.00 – 3.00pm during the Year 10 Inquiry classes, at our Senior Campus in Cairnlea.

On that day we will have representatives from a range of professions and industries to help students consider their options, when making their senior subject selections.

Participants will be organised into panels aligned with occupational fields and/or subject areas. Each panellist will speak about their backgrounds and careers, and students will be given an opportunity to ask questions to make informed decisions regarding their subject choices for 2025.

If you are in the workforce and you would be interested in sharing your career experiences with our students, please contact Ms Muratore on 8312 0200.

Child Safety and Wellbeing at VUSC: Information for families and the school community

Victoria University Secondary College is committed to providing a child safe and child friendly environment, where students are safe and feel safe.

The Victorian Government has announced new Child Safe Standards to further strengthen child safety across organisations, including schools. The new standards recognise the critical importance of families and the broader school community in maintaining and promoting child safety and wellbeing.

VUSC has reviewed and updated our child safety policies and procedures to ensure they meet the requirements of the new standards. These are available to download below and can also be viewed on our school website.

We are committed to continuous improvement in our approach to child safety and wellbeing and welcome feedback from families and members of our school community on ways we can further strengthen our child safety policies, procedures and practices.

If you have any suggestions, comments or questions, please contact your campus and speak to your Campus Principal.
