VOCI’D’ITALIA 

(Voices of Italy)

Our Year 9 students of Italian recently enjoyed an immersive language excursion to “The Vault” restaurant in Kalamunda. This unique experience allowed the boys to conduct an interview in Italian with Marco, the pastry chef, an Italian citizen now residing in Australia, enabling them to apply their conversational and questioning skills in a real-world setting.

In preparation for the visit, students studied a set of “SONDAGGIO” questions covering various get-to-know-you and travel-related questions in Italian, integrated throughout the unit. After completing Task 2 “Travel Blogs” in both written and spoken presentations, the students reflected on their travels by responding to the questions in Italian. It was fantastic to see their confidence grow during the excursion and by the end of the unit, as they effectively applied their vocabulary and grammatical knowledge in a practical context.

Before the formalities, the students savoured a delicious pasta meal accompanied by pane all’aglio (garlic bread). Some students concluded their visit with a gelato, making the experience both educational and enjoyable.

‘Ieri, siamo andati al ristorante “The Vault” in Kalamunda. Abbiamo preso il bus con i nostri due classi d’italiane. Eravamo seduti su due tavoli e abbiamo mangiato cibo molto delizioso per il pranzo. Dopo pranzo abbiamo intervistato lo chef di pasticcierie. Per finire la giornata , siamo andati e abbiamo sceloa un gelato cremoso. Poi abbiamo preso il bus per tornare a scuola.’
