Mrs Shirley Julie-Wallis - English
Hello my name is Shirley and here is a little spiel about me. Through this journey called life, I have had 22 years in education as a teacher and mentor. Along the way having 2 beautiful daughters and getting married. My vocation of being an educator started in my home country of the Seychelles, where I completed 7 years, educating high school students. In 2006 I was given the opportunity to study abroad, so I came to Australia to complete more studies at ECU. Due to doing well with my studies in 2008, the Western Australian Department of Education offered me a job working in country WA as a high school teacher, teaching HASS and English. Since then, I have been working as a teacher in various schools throughout the wheatbelt, teaching HASS, English and various other subjects. Working at Cunderdin Ag allows for my two passions to align, teaching the next generation and Agriculture.

In 2024, WA College of Agriculture, Cunderdin embarks on a new online learning platform called Mathspace. It combines three innovative features in one integrated learning environment: adaptive learning, interactive textbooks, and diagnostic check-ins. These features allow teachers to assign work, monitor progress, and provide guidance to students, while students can learn at their own level, pace, and style.
Unlike a normal textbook, Mathspace uses a powerful engine that provides students with immediate and personalised feedback at every step of solving a maths problem. Furthermore, Mathspace tracks every step and gives hints, videos, and explanations to help students along the way. This way, students can learn from their mistakes, build their confidence, and master the skills they need. Teachers can also see the step-level data and identify the strengths and weaknesses of each student, as well as the common misconceptions and errors in the class.
