FOOTWEAR GUIDELINES TAS DEPARTMENT

Footwear is an important safety item. Good soles provide sound grip on the floor preventing accidents such as slips, trips and falls from occurring.

Footwear also protects feet from damage caused by accidents such as falling sharp objects like knives, scissors, chisels and timber and spillages of hot liquids, paints or chemicals.

In accordance with the Safe Working Policy - refer to Australian/NZ Standard 2210; Safety Protective and Occupational Footwear areas where enclosed leather footwear is required, are; - “Industrial Arts and trades workshops areas, Food Technology/kitchen areas and Agricultural spaces.” The Technology and Applied Studies Faculty - TAS.

At McCarthy Catholic College students are required to wear black traditional, fully enclosed, lace up leather school shoes with a hard sole as part of their formal uniform. When they are in sports uniform, students will be required to bring their black leather school shoes and change into them prior to their practical lessons.

They have the options of carrying these shoes in their bags or taking up the offer of storing them in a school provided locker.

If a student presents to class with inappropriate footwear the student will be missing out on their practical experiences thus placing the achievement of course outcomes in jeopardy. They will however be offered alternate educational activities.
