What an inspiring start to the new year! A warm welcome to both our new and returning students and families, as we come together once again to embrace the spirit of community at McCarthy Catholic College.

 

Anniversary of the National Apology Day - Tuesday, February 13, 2024

As we gather on this solemn occasion, we acknowledge with deep respect the traditional custodians of the Gomeroi People's land. We pay tribute to their enduring stewardship and rich cultural heritage. February 13th marks the anniversary of the National Apology, a day to reflect on the injustices suffered by Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander peoples throughout history. Let us honor their resilience and continue our commitment to healing and reconciliation.

 

New Additions to the Team

We extend a heartfelt welcome to Seb Lawler and Wyatt Allen, joining our Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Support team. Seb and Wyatt will be working alongside Lisa, supporting students across various subjects and year groups. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact they will have on our community this year.

 

Year 10 - 12 Warraymaylaya Culture and Career Pathways Retreat 2024 - Sydney

Mark your calendars! Term 2 Week 2, 6th May - 10th May. 

During this week our students will engage in the Warraymaylaya Culture and Career Pathways Retreat. This immersive experience not only delves into cultural and spiritual enrichment but also provides a platform for networking and exploring diverse career pathways.

 

Warraymaylaya Maal Dhuw Retreat

Save the date! May 27th to May 31st, 2024, our Year 8 and 9 Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander students will embark on the Warraymayalaya Maal Dhuwi Retreat, delving into the themes of "Aboriginal Spirituality and Identity". This retreat offers a unique opportunity for students to explore their roots, foster resilience, forge new connections, and celebrate the strength of unity and identity within our Diocese.

 

Please note -  Limited spots are available for both Retreats and eligibility details will be communicated directly to students.

 

Gomeroi Cultural Academy

Congratulations to Keely Nash and Bella Dow for their selection to participate in the esteemed Gomeroi Cultural Academy program of 2024. We eagerly anticipate their journey of cultural immersion and leadership development as they officially commence on February 16th.

 

Aboriginal Studies

This year, we are offering Stage 5 Aboriginal Studies. Mrs. Louise Vella- Leader of Learning HSIE, will be supported by Lisa Smith in leading students in this course. Stage 6 Aboriginal Studies is also available via Distance Education. Get ready for a journey of cultural exploration and understanding.
