Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

School Council Elections

Nominations for our 2024 School Council are being called. We would love some new School Council members to join us this year.

Self-nomination forms are available from our office and are open from today through until Friday 1st March.

Should there be more nominations than vacancies, a ballot will then commence over the course of the following fortnight to establish the final membership.

Please consider nominating and joining a vibrant and active group of volunteers, who provide wonderful governance for our school community.

Smoking Ceremony

Unfortunately, due to unforeseen circumstances, our Smoking Ceremony planned for last Monday morning was unable to proceed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.

Booklists

I would like to acknowledge and thank our families that have provided their child's learning requirements for 2024 through the booklist. Booklists that have been ordered through Radmac have been received and have been organised to ensure that each child's stationary is accounted for and stored for their use. Please be assured that our classroom teachers have been  quite strategic in determining exactly what will be needed for learning throughout the year. Therefore, consumables such as pencils and glue sticks will no doubt be used throughout the year to support the wealth of learning experiences the children will engage in.

Voluntary Contributions

Speaking about learning experiences, it is important that as a school community we acknowledge and thank our families for paying the voluntary contribution for their child/ren at the Administration Office this year. With the cost of living an important consideration, the amount of the voluntary contribution has been reduced. These contributions are vital in allowing access to learning resources and supports and enhance the learning experiences that we, as a school, can provide. Thank you to all of our families that are supporting our school by contributing these funds.

Calling all Volunteers

If you are interested in volunteering at our school, we would love to have you! In whatever capacity, whether it be classroom support or another opportunity throughout the year, volunteers are always welcome.

A Volunteer Training session will take place at our school next Wednesday February 14 at 5:00 pm. Please register your interest in attending through the Administration Office by Monday February 12 at 4:00 pm. Thank you.

Communication

At Miners Rest K-6, we value our strong partnerships with families. We continually strive to support and connect with our families and appreciate questions and feedback always. Our families are encouraged, and are welcomed, to seek clarification with classroom teachers via a phone call, email or connecting with your child's classroom teacher at the end of the day or before learning commences in the morning. Alternatively, families are also encouraged to make an appointment with myself or Sarah Bigmore, our Assistant Principal to discuss matters of concern and/or matters of celebration. We thank our families for their continued support in contributing to the positive partnerships we are so proud of at our school.

With best wishes,

Kylie Nissen.
