HEALTH & PE LEARNING AREA

This year at St Joseph’s College we are proud to announce a significant transformation within our Health and PE Learning Area. Initiated by Mr Brock Chapman in consultation with Airlie Tudhope and Heath Hay from PE Made Easy, the college will have a dynamic and comprehensive coverage of the Health and PE Curriculum for all students in Years 7 to 10. Our move comes by transitioning from a traditional sports-based approach to a theme-based approach, which will enable students to try a wider variety of games and diversify from the popular sports many play out of school.
This innovative shift marks a departure from the conventional methods of teaching physical education, offering students a more immersive and inter-disciplinary learning experience. By integrating thematic elements into our curriculum, we aim to develop not only physical prowess but also critical thinking, creativity, and a deeper understanding of health and wellbeing.
We are delighted to welcome three new members to our dedicated team, each bringing a wealth of expertise and enthusiasm to our learning area. Please welcome Mr Ashley Weir, Mr Nick Noblet, and myself (Mr James Canavan).
Ashley comes to us with a background in the fitness industry and a passion for promoting active lifestyles among students. His expertise in fitness training and nutrition will undoubtedly inspire our students to prioritise their health and wellbeing.
Nick brings a unique perspective to our team with his experience in Health and PE in a secondary setting. With a focus on skill acquisition and game-based learning drills, he will help students explore the world around them while developing essential life skills such as teamwork and resilience.
Finally, I join the college with a background in Primary Physical Education and a background in the fitness industry. My expertise will empower students to develop resilience, focus, and self-confidence both on and off the field.
Together, our team is committed to nurturing well-rounded individuals who not only excel in sports but also possess the skills and mindset to thrive in an ever-changing world. We look forward to embarking on this exciting journey of exploration, growth, and discovery with our students.
