LEARNING DIVERSITY

Welcome back to the new year. Already flying by and building momentum! The new year brings many challenges for students, including transition into high school, transition from one school to another, and transition out to different courses such as TAFE. Our
Wellbeing Team and I have been working with many students over the last few weeks to ease their transition and provide support to engage productively in the classroom.
Each year I meet with many parents and students in program support group meetings. These invitations have been sent to parents through the PAM Module as an 'activity'. I look forward to engaging in rewarding discussions about student learning. Ms Teagan Saleta and I will be conducting concurrent meetings. This will enable us to be more available for students by meeting with all parents and students across a two-week window.
Personal Learning Plans are currently being reviewed by teachers who will set learning goals. The Personal Learning Plans will be available for parents in PAM by week 6. Plans are always flexible, so please contact me if we need to update something that we have not discussed in the PSG Meeting.
The National Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) for students with disabilities guides and shapes the way I engage with the collection of information across the year. Parents who are unfamiliar with the Census, which provides funding for students with disabilities to the school each year, can find information about the NCCD here and also on the NCCD website www.nccd.com.
As many parents are aware, Flourish classes are operating differently in 2024. Students in Years 7 and 8 will work with our Learning Diversity Team and complete intervention based on the Sounds Write Synthetic Phonics Program. These students will complete two hours per week in place of Italian.
At Year 9 students will be withdrawn from one hour class per week. Data from a number of assessments is used to identify and track students in these groups. We are so pleased that students are finding the program helpful and most importantly are improving their literacy skills.
Students at Years 10, 11, and 12 are welcome to connect with a Learning Support Officer in the Library after school for tutoring. They are available each afternoon until 4:30pm. We love helping students with their learning and seeing them achieve great things.
