It has been another jam-packed fortnight for the Kinross Wolaroi Rowing Squad, with training and preparation continuing at a high level as we move deeper into the regatta season.
On Saturday, 7 February, Kinross Wolaroi enjoyed a remarkably successful day at the Kings/PLC Regatta held at the Sydney International Regatta Centre. The event attracted approximately 1,700 athletes, making for an outstanding standard of competition. KWS was proudly represented by a 51-strong squad comprising our girls and junior boys.
The results were exceptional. Kinross Wolaroi finished the regatta as the most successful school on the day, securing 14 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 2 bronze medals. This is a fantastic achievement and a credit to the dedication, resilience, and work ethic the squad demonstrated throughout the summer holiday period.
This weekend, a squad of 45 Kinross rowers will return to the Sydney International Regatta Centre to compete in the NSW State Rowing Championships, the largest championships ever recorded. We wish all athletes the very best as they test themselves against some of the strongest crews from across the state and country.
For families and supporters unable to attend, a livestream will be available on YouTube, providing a wonderful opportunity to follow and support our students across the three days of racing. Competition begins on Friday and concludes on Sunday.
We extend our best wishes to all KWS summer sporting teams for their weekend fixtures and congratulate our rowers as they strive for their very best performances at the State Championships.

We are thrilled to celebrate the success of Sophie Williams (Year 12), who recently represented NSW at the 2026 Australian U18 Softball Championships. Sophie was a key contributor to the team’s performance, which culminated in a close grand final victory over Queensland, securing the title of 2026 National Champions.
This is a remarkable achievement for Sophie and the NSW team, and is a testament to her commitment, talent, and teamwork. Congratulations, Sophie.

Last weekend Kinross Wolaroi triathletes braved the wet weather and completed the first triathlon for 2026. The interclub competition which included athletes from Dubbo, Mudgee, Bathurst, Cowra, and Orange, was held at Gosling Creek with multiple race distances available for people to test their strength and endurance.
First up was the Super Sprint, which included a 270m open water swim, 8.8km ride and 2km run. Some highlights were Elsie Godfrey-Ryall placing 2nd in the Under 20 Girls’ division and Tom Nelson placing 3rd in the Under 20 Boys’ division. During the race, our athletes demonstrated how much effort they have put into their recent training and dedication to the sport with everyone finishing in the top 15 for both Under 20 Boys’ and Girls’.
Next was the Sprint, a longer and more challenging race with a 540m swim, 23km bike ride and 4.4km run. Even as the weather worsened, the race continued and our team endured, with Sam Commins, Jock Morgan and George Davis completing the Sprint distance for the first time, an amazing achievement, and a real demonstration of their dedication to triathlon. We had some great results with Max Horne placing 2nd in the Under 18's sprint distance and an exciting sprint finish at the end between Oscar Zielinksi and Flynn Jones.
Coming up at the end of February will be Kinross Wolaroi Triathlon’s major event that we have been training for over the last few months, NSW All Schools Triathlon in Penrith, the three-day event with athletes travelling from all over NSW to compete. Thank you so much to all our parents, coaches, and families who supported us, cheered us on and been there for the early mornings, we couldn’t have done it without you.
Anna Childs - Year 11 Student
The first weekend of ISA Touch Football was held in Bathurst. Despite the extreme heat, all five teams battled the conditions and delivered an outstanding set of results across all divisions. Our division 1 team, led by Captains Katie Ivey and Lucy Carney had an impressive game against Oxley College. The team maintained high intensity from start to finish and special mentions must go to Lucy Atkinson and Ava Healey who played majority of the game without a sub. All girls played extremely well and came away with a dominant 12 -2 victory.
The division 2 girls had a huge day on the field, playing a total of three matches against Scots All Saints, Blue Mountains Grammar and Chevalier College. The girls showed impressive depth and consistency across all games and came away undefeated. With a total of 26 tries scored throughout the day, the division 2 team should be proud of their efforts in maintaining their winning streak.
Division 3 played against Chevalier College’s Division 2 side and worked hard throughout the entire game to secure an 8-5 win. All girls played extremely well in both their attack and defense, and should be commended for their efforts as they had limited subs.
The Junior As faced two difficult matches, going down 0 -2 and 0-4 against both Oxley and Chevalier College. While the results didn’t fall their way, the effort and determination shown in each game were commendable. The Junior A girls continued to compete strongly in defense and played two of their best games this season.
The Junior Bs had two successful matches winning 4-0 and 4-3 against both Oxley and Chevalier College. Despite the heat, the Junior Bs played as a team and showed great determination to secure their winning streak.
Thank you must go to both families and spectators who travelled to Bathurst, your presence on the sidelines is greatly appreciated by all players and staff!
Ms Emma Sweeney

7 February Matches
The First XI had an excellent win on Kinross Main against a strong CYMS side. Winning the toss, Kinross Wolaroi posted 170 with Will Younghusband continuing his excellent summer with 81.
With the ball captain Charlie Miller led from the front with 5-13 with Fergus Smith with 3-19 and supported superbly by some great catches bowling out CYMS for 54.

The 2nd XI, competing in the 3rd Grade competition, recorded a gutsy win over Centrals Red on the weekend. Batting first on a slow outfield, Kinross posted a competitive total of 144.
At one stage the match looked to be slipping away, with Centrals needing just 37 runs with eight wickets in hand and 16 overs remaining. However, Kinross Wolaroi dug deep and produced an outstanding bowling performance, dismissing Centrals for 139 to secure their best win of the season. Max Lawson and Marco Orme-Smith led the attack with three wickets apiece, while Sam Spliet was outstanding in the field, taking an impressive four catches as the ball seemed to follow him wherever he went.
The victory sees Kinross Wolaroi leapfrog Centrals Red into fourth place and puts them in strong contention for the finals with three games remaining.

Strong Summer Foundations and an Exciting Season Ahead
From Mr Angus Brotherton, MIC Rugby
The 2026 rugby season is already off to a promising start, driven by the impressive commitment and work ethic displayed by our Summer Squad. Over terms 4 & 1, players engaged in high‑intensity skill sessions and conditioning blocks that have set a strong and positive standard for their year ahead. Their attitude, consistency, and willingness to challenge themselves continue to shape the positive culture we value within the KWS Rugby Program.
Strengthening our strong relationship with Sydney University Rugby Club, the School proudly hosted Sydney University Colts for a preseason rugby camp that took place from Friday, 16 January to Sunday, 18 January. We welcomed 60 players and 12 staff to our campus, providing them with outstanding facilities and support. The camp was both busy and energising, and it reinforced our connection with one of Australia’s oldest and most successful rugby clubs.
A highlight was the opportunity for ten Kinross Wolaroi summer squad players to train alongside the Colts. This provided invaluable exposure to elite coaching, professional-level standards, and a high‑performance training environment. These students were able to extend their technical skill sets, improve their conditioning, and gain insight into the demands of senior representative rugby.
The Kinross Wolaroi School Rugby Program extends its sincere thanks to the many people who contributed to the success of the camp. In particular, we acknowledge the exceptional efforts of our Grounds Team, the Heads of Boys Boarding Houses, and our Cleaning Staff, all of whom played essential roles in delivering a seamless and enjoyable experience for Sydney University.
We also congratulate the Kinross Wolaroi players who recently represented South West NSW in the NSW Rugby Youth Development Program at Bathurst Bulldogs. Their selections are a credit to their discipline and passion for the sport. Well done to:
Kylis Delaney • Matilda Tink • Tiari Delaney • Maddie O’Brien • Hamish Leader • Declan Dixon • Heathcliffe Bell • Tom Casey • Reuban Cleary • Ash Robinson • Hugh Nash • Cooper Martin
Looking ahead, our General Rugby Preseason will begin shortly for all age groups. We are also excited to welcome our newest students through the Year 7 ‘Try’ Sports Program, where we will introduce incoming Year 7s to rugby and begin forming the next generation of our players.
With strong momentum building across the program, 2026 promises to be an exciting and rewarding season for Kinross Wolaroi Rugby.
