Celebrating the growth in our wonderful children on each learning level...
Last Friday in Prep, we had a wonderful Teddy Bears’ Picnic! Students were so excited to bring along their favourite teddy bears and soft toys to join in the fun. Throughout the morning, we enjoyed a special picnic on the forecourt with friends, families and our favourite cuddly friends. Before the picnic, students practised their speaking and listening skills as they introduced their bears to the class and described what makes them special. So many of the students shared how happy they were to have this special time with friends and family, and a particular highlight was dancing to all our favourite songs! It was a fantastic celebration of community, while also giving students the opportunity to practise their communication skills and celebrate learning together.

Grade 1 students have been exploring 2D shapes in Maths. They are becoming increasingly confident in using their PR1ME books independently and navigating the pages. This week students particularly enjoyed learning about quadrilaterals, discovering that these shapes all have four sides and four vertices. We have also introduced the new word vertices into our vocabulary and students are beginning to use it with confidence. They had a wonderful time identifying and discussing a variety of 2D shapes, while continuing to build their confidence and expand their mathematical vocabulary. Well done Grade 1 Mathematicians!

In Humanities, our Year 2 students have been learning about the Yarra River and why it is such an important part of our local environment. To bring their learning to life, the children created their own versions of the Yarra River. They had lots of fun using their creativity to design and build their rivers, carefully thinking about the different features a river might have.
Some students went the extra mile by adding details such as bridges, rocks and surrounding landscapes. It was wonderful to see their imagination at work and how proudly they shared their creations with their classmates. The activity sparked lots of discussion about rivers and helped the children deepen their understanding through hands-on learning.

Well done to our Year 3 students who completed their first NAPLAN assessments. We are proud of their positive attitude, focus and determination to achieve their personal best.
This term, our Year 3 students have been very excited to participate in their Passion Project sessions. 3A, 3B and 3D tapped into their creativity by making tote bags. They first drew designs for their bags using their imagination. To bring this design to life on their tote bag, they used fabric markers. Students then made a colourful addition to their tote which was a pom-pom. They followed a video to make their pom-poms and were resilient through the tough steps of the process.
3C used their creative flair to make bracelets. They too used their imaginations to create designs. They used colourful beads to create their personalised bracelets. With a little help from Miss Lauren and Miss Nina, each student had a bracelet of their own. Some students were very kind and made their bracelet for Kenny the Koala (class mascot) to wear every day.

Over the past few weeks in Maths, Year 4 students have been developing their understanding of decimals. They have learned about place value (tenths), how decimals represent parts of a whole, and how to convert between decimals and fractions. Students also explored decimals beyond one whole, matched mixed numbers with decimals, and practised placing, comparing, and ordering decimals on a number line.
To bring this learning together, students completed a hands-on investigation using time. They recorded and analysed times in seconds, including tenths (e.g. 1.6 seconds), applying their decimal knowledge in a real-world context. Lots of fun was had!

We are extremely proud of our wonderful Year 5 students for completing their NAPLAN tests with persistence and concentration. Their dedication to preparing for the assessments and giving their best effort in each one has been fantastic to see. To recognise their hard work and commitment, the students enjoyed some well-earned extra playtime.
In Humanities, our Year 5 students have been working enthusiastically to design and create products for the Year 5 South Melbourne Primary School Market. They have been applying the skills developed in our Personal and Social Capabilities lessons, particularly cooperation and goal setting. Through thoughtful teamwork and strong effort, the students have created some impressive products and are excited to share them with the rest of the school community.
Last week, we finished our first novel study of the year, The Wizard of Oz. To celebrate, students participate in a Wizard of Oz-themed Escape Room. They worked in small groups, completing 16 challenges in order to earn a heart, brain, courage and a key. These items then provided a code that they used to escape The Land of Oz! Each student won a small bag of Skittles and a Wizard of Oz sticker for completing the Escape RThis week, we have watched The Wizard of Oz film and have begun writing a comparative essay to analyse the differences between the book the movie.
