Principal's Report

To BEPS community,

The start of a school year is the time to establish expectations and routines. A steady routine is essential if your child is to make a positive start. Both at home and at school, it greatly benefits each child when clear guidelines are in place for recreation and work, exercise and rest, school responsibilities and individual needs. As we know, some children find it challenging to attend to demands beyond 'play', and consistent structures help build confidence, independence and readiness to learn.

Our Foundation students have transitioned into their learning environment, establishing routines, building initial friendships and developing a strong sense of belonging which remain our early priorities. A key focus has been learning to play safely, including the importance of using 'Safe Hands, Safe Feet' in the playground and classroom. The development of this language at Foundation and across the school ensures every child feels secure, respected and ready to learn.

Next Monday at assembly our student leaders will be formally acknowledged as they receive their leadership badges. We are grateful to John Mullahy, Member for Glen Waverley, who has generously offered to present these badges. This ceremony recognises the responsibility and voice our leaders bring to our school.

A big Shout Out to Max in 6K for his amazing efforts to support our World Vision Child-Minh Son. Max has donated 350 dollars so that all BEPS students will receive a free Zooper Dooper on Friday 20th February. This generous donation provides Mihn Son with important things like education, food and healthcare.

At this time of year, we also acknowledge and celebrate the diversity within our community. We extend our warm wishes to families celebrating Lunar New Year and to those observing Ramadan. These significant occasions are deeply meaningful for many of our families. We value the rich traditions, reflection, celebration and community spirit they bring to our school. May this be a time of joy, renewal and connection for all who are observing.

Our recent Meet and Greet sessions were very well supported. It was wonderful to see families engaging in positive and purposeful conversations with teachers. Strong partnerships between home and school make a significant difference to student success, and we thank you for your continued involvement.

We are incredibly proud of the numerous students who represented our school at District Swimming. Their effort and commitment were outstanding, and we congratulate all participants. A special acknowledgment to the three students, Steve 4J, Ella 4Y and Alieshia 6I, who are progressing to the next level of competition (division). We wish them every success.

Census Day – 27 February

Census Day takes place on 27 February, and attendance on this day determines our confirmed school budget for 2026. Enrolments after this date do not attract funding. Your support in ensuring your child attends school on this day is appreciated.

Personal School Tours

We offer school tours throughout the year for families considering enrolment at Burwood East Primary School. Our tours provide a first-hand look at our vibrant learning environment, and allow us to answer questions to help families feel confident in their decision. We warmly welcome prospective families to see our wonderful school in action. Please contact the office on 98028618

Medication at School – Important Reminder

If your child requires medication on a short-term basis (prescription), the medication must:

  • be dropped off and collected at the office by a parent/carer.
  • be in original packaging.
  • be accompanied by a completed medication form (available from the office at drop-off).

We are unable to administer medication unless this process is followed.

Head Lice – Department of Health Advice

Parents are reminded to regularly check their child’s hair for eggs and live head lice. The Victorian Department of Health recommends the 'conditioner and comb method' weekly:

  • Apply hair conditioner to dry, detangled hair.
  • Thoroughly comb sections with a fine-tooth lice comb.
  • Wipe conditioner from the comb onto a paper towel or tissue.
  • Check the tissue and comb for lice or eggs.
  • Repeat for every part of the head at least four to five times.
  • If lice or eggs are found, commence treatment.
  • Retreat hair in seven days (or as per treatment instructions).
  • Notify the teacher or school office confidentially if head lice is detected.

Further information is available via Better Health Victoria.

Spare Clothing Reminder

From time to time, students may require a change of clothing. We kindly ask families to place a spare set of uniform and undergarments (including socks) in your child’s school bag. This simple step can prevent the need for parents to return to school during the day.

2025 Annual Report to the School Community

The Annual Report provides an opportunity to share the school’s achievements and progress with our community. The preparation and publication of the Annual Report is a legislative requirement under the Education and Training Reform Act 2006, the Education and Training Reform Regulations 2017, and Ministerial Order 1280. The report is prepared in two parts:

  • Performance Summary – detailing school performance and trends over time (compiled by the Department and available via SPOT).
  • About Our School Commentary – prepared by the Principal, outlining key achievements and progress from the previous year.

We look forward to sharing the 2025 Annual Report and celebrating the collective achievements of our students, staff and community.
