Reconciliation Action Plan

Our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP) 2025 Update
At Burwood East Primary School (BEPS), we are committed to building a school community grounded in respect, understanding and inclusion. One of the ways we do this is through our Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP).
A RAP is a practical plan that supports schools to build respectful relationships and understanding with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It helps students learn about Australia’s shared history, recognise the world’s oldest continuing cultures, and develop empathy and respect.
In 2025, BEPS has continued to make meaningful progress on our reconciliation journey. Guided by a shared school vision, reconciliation is embedded into everyday school life and learning.
Reconciliation is woven through teaching and learning across the year, with students exploring Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and contemporary issues. This helps students understand that First Nations cultures are living, resilient and evolving.
A highlight this year was the addition of three flagpoles at the front of the school, allowing BEPS to proudly fly the Aboriginal flag and Torres Strait Islander flag alongside the Australian flag. Displaying these flags so prominently is an important symbol of recognition, respect and our commitment to reconciliation.
BEPS continues to build respectful relationships with the Wurundjeri people and the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community, and we demonstrate respect through Acknowledgements of Country at school events and gatherings.
Creating a school environment free from racism remains a priority. Through inclusive practices and open conversations, we support students to value diversity and build respectful relationships.
We are proud of the progress made so far and look forward to continuing our reconciliation journey together as a school community.
