Principal's News

Dear St Agatha’s School Community,
It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through Term 1. The year has begun with wonderful energy, community spirit and many meaningful learning experiences for our students.
Whole School Athletics Day
We recently enjoyed a fantastic Whole School Athletics Day, and I hope you have had the chance to look through the attached photos capturing the colour, teamwork and joy of the event.
A heartfelt thank you to all our parent volunteers, whose support helps these days run smoothly, and a special acknowledgment to our dedicated staff and to Mr V, our PE teacher, for the organisation and passion that ensured such a successful day for our students.
Ash Wednesday Mass
Our school gathered for a reverent and prayerful whole-school Mass for Ash Wednesday, marking the beginning of the Lenten season.
In the Catholic Church, Ash Wednesday reminds us of our need for humility, renewal and reconciliation with God and one another. The ashes placed on our foreheads symbolise repentance and our commitment to grow in faith.
Pope St Leo the Great reminds us that: “Lent is a season of repentance, of turning away from sin and returning to God through acts of love, forgiveness, and generosity.”
This message invites us all—students, staff and families—to pause, reflect and seek opportunities to show kindness and compassion throughout this sacred season.
Sacrament of Reconciliation – Year 3
Our Year 3 students who are baptised Catholics are currently preparing for the Sacrament of Reconciliation. This sacrament is a celebration of God’s forgiveness and an opportunity for us to make things right when we have hurt others.
We see this reflected beautifully in school life: children are naturally quick to forgive, showing us how reconciliation can bring peace to our relationships and help us to grow together with open hearts.
Blessed Carlo Acutis – Veneration of Relics
In the coming weeks, St Agatha’s Parish will host the Veneration of the Relics of Blessed Carlo Acutis. Our Year 5 and 6 students will be invited to visit the church next week to learn more about his life.
Carlo Acutis was a young, faith-filled teenager from Italy who used his love of technology to share the miracles of the Eucharist with the world. He lived with deep compassion and devotion before passing away at only 15. Carlo was declared Blessed for his inspiring holiness and the example he set for young people today.
NAPLAN – Year 3 and Year 5
A reminder that NAPLAN is approaching for our Year 3 and Year 5 students. It will take place on March 11 - 13. This is an important opportunity for students to demonstrate their growth in literacy and numeracy.
Harmony Day – Free Dress Day
We will celebrate Harmony Day with a Free Dress Day. Students are asked to bring along an Easter egg donation for our annual Easter Raffle that will be drawn on Monday 30 March. Thank you in advance for your generosity—our raffle prizes are always a highlight for the students!
Holy Week Liturgy
We will conclude the term with our Holy Week Liturgy on Wednesday April 1. This will be held on the last day of school for students and provides an important opportunity for reflection on the journey of Christ leading up to Easter.
Student Afternoon Pick Up Reminder
A reminder that students should not be collected early from the office unless absolutely necessary. Learning continues right up until 3:30pm, and early departures disrupt both your child’s learning and the flow of the classroom. We appreciate your support in ensuring students remain at school for the full day.
Thank you for your continued partnership and commitment to our school community. St Agatha’s is a place where faith, learning and care grow together, and it is a privilege to lead such a vibrant school.
Don't forget that our last day of Term for all students is Wednesday April 1 and Term 2 begins on Monday April 20.
Yours in partnership,
Michelle Bruitzman
