Principal's Report
Semester 1 Comes Towards a Finish
Formal classes for Semester 1 have come to an end for our Year 10 and 11 students who begin their exams from Monday 3 June and will be closely followed for our other students who will begin their Semester 2 classes on Monday 17 June. It has been a wonderfully successful semester both in and out of the classroom and I look forward to celebrating student achievement at the Semester 1 College Values Award Ceremonies which will be held in the last week of term.
Academic Redemption
We are trialling our new Academic Redemption Process over the next two weeks. Students in Years 7-10 will be notified if they need to attend to complete outstanding work via Teams and Compass. The goal of this initiative is to support all students to be able to finish the semester well and start the new one fresh with all work done and captured in their reports. Parents will be able to check the Compass calendar to see if students need to attend and provide consent for afterschool sessions in Week 9. Thank you for supporting our students to get up to date with their work.
Students Begin Goal Setting Work
Students in Years 8-10 recently began work on our recently completed Goal Setting Templates. Each student has been provided with access to their own document which they will use during their time at the College to set goals and track progress in a range of areas such as:
- Health and Wellbeing
- Attendance
- Hobbies and Interests
- Careers and Pathways
- SPWBS and Awards
- Community Engagement
- Literacy and Numeracy.
Students have enjoyed using the templates and have already reported that they look forward to seeing how things such as their hobbies, interests and pathway goals change over time.
We are now looking at incorporating the document so that it can potentially be used with parents at events such as parent/teacher interviews and partnership meetings. In addition, we are working on a model so that parents can access a live version of the document via Compass.
Below are some example pages from the Goal Setting Template that students will use.
Landscaping Works
The Victorian School Building Authority recently selected S J Higgins to complete the Landscaping works at the front of our Performing Arts Centre.
The project will focus on courtyard 1 (see below) and while we are keen to still complete the other two court yards, it appears that the scope of this work may need to be either delayed or scaled back due to costs.
Regardless, this is an incredibly exciting project and works are due to begin later this term and completed by the September school holidays.
Market Day
On Tuesday 21 May, our Year 11 Vocational Major and VCE Business Management students held our annual Markey Day at lunchtime.
Following weeks of preparation and marketing strategies, our students made a profit of over $2500, with proceeds going to The Royal Children's Hospital and the Pets for the Homeless Charity.
It was great see how much work students had put into preparation with many surprised at how quickly they ran out of goods and produce.
Uniform Update
Over recent weeks we have been completing uniform checks across all years and while the vast majority of students follow our uniform policy at all times, we have had conversations with a number of students and families about the wearing of non-PSW school pants. Of particular concern has been students wearing tight fitting elastic style grey pants.
Student feedback has been that the school pants are uncomfortable which we have followed up with our supplier who have now put a stretchier type material with a different cut into stock for our school. These are now available.
A copy of our uniform policy can be found via this link.
I encourage you to take the time to look through the various pages in this newsletter to see the many wonderful things that our staff and students have been involved in so far this term.
