👷VET Pathways & WPL
VET Pathways & Workplace Learning
During Week 10, the Year 10 students will have the opportunity to explore a range of opportunities during MyPath Week. I would encourage all students to explore the MyPath website and spend time researching the information that has been provided.
Not only do the Year 10 students have the chance to enrol in courses provided by RTOs from July, but the current Year 11 students also have one-year courses available to them. Please ensure you act upon receiving the email once it is sent through in July. All RTOs require a resume so the boys should start to create a basic email now – I have a template if this is required.
I have met with all General Year 12 students to discuss goals for the remaining part of the year – we have discussed different apprenticeships and courses available to them in 2025. I will continue to check in with the Year 12s to ensure they are on track for next year.
Excursions
Industry & Enterprise
The I&E students were lucky enough to attend Austral Ships to explore the design and construction of defence force and governmental ships. Students were able to understand employment opportunities within this business. We then attended South Metro TAFE to explore the world of training with the RTO. The boys toured the facilities exploring areas of automation, electronics, oil & gas. The boys had fun using the VR Headset to go fishing, do hairdressing, and complete an open-heart surgery.
Term Two - Barminco
Term Three – Perth Careers Expo
Term Four – Roy Hill
Years 11 & 12
It is the time of year to train up our new baristas for U Bean Café – sixteen students attended ‘Barista School Perth’ at Jessie’s Café in Myaree. The boys learnt how to create the perfect coffee and there were many interesting reactions to tasting their first coffee.
The boys have also been offered the opportunity to complete their Responsible Service of Alcohol online – this course is run through the AHAWA – if your son is interested please let me know.
Guest Speakers
With a focus on post-schooling opportunities for the Year 12s we have timetabled many guest speakers throughout the year;
CJD – National Training & Development Manager
Alvin spoke to the students about what he would be looking for in an apprentice and what they should include in their resumes. He also discussed how questions can be framed to answer the interview questions in the correct way.
Komatsu – We were very lucky to have Jack ('22), William ('23) and Jason (Workshop Supervisor) speak to the boys about their experience when applying for apprenticeships. They discussed the importance of how you present yourself, how to stand out from the crowd and the life of an apprentice. We appreciate the time that the community continue to invest back into Mazenod.
We have lots of more exciting guest speakers over the next two terms with areas of mining, influencers and RTOs.

Workplace Learning forms are due next Friday 3 May. I have delivered information related to Workplace Learning earlier than last time – all students should have the booklet to complete.
