What’s Happening in Careers?

Year 10

This term our MyPath sessions are focused on preparing our boys to make pathway and specific subject selections by the end of the term. They will be hearing from the Head of each learning area about the subjects on offer in their subject area. Students will get overviews of the course content, information about prerequisites and explanations of how these subjects can support them in pursuing careers in areas of interest.

We had our first session this week from RE and HASS. The PowerPoints for these presentations have been emailed to students and parents so you can review them at home and discuss the options.

Year 11

The Year 11 group have their first MyPath session next week. The university-bound students will begin to apply their knowledge of university entry requirements to researching courses that might be of interest to them.

Year 12

Our university-bound students heard about the courses and opportunities available at Murdoch University during their Careers session. Our work/apprenticeship-bound students had a presentation with former students Jack Giumelli and Will Della-Franca alongside a floor supervisor from Komatsu. This was an enlightening discussion about the process of securing an apprenticeship and how these boys are navigating being apprentices.

There are a number of great opportunities coming up for our students. The Careers Expo is a fantastic way for the boys to explore career options and we hope that they take advantage of this opportunity to attend. Those who have been in the past have found it to be a very useful experience and would recommend it.

The attached newsletter below has several university events that are worth checking out, including application support sessions.

Don’t forget that you can access these easily through our portal - definitely the best place to keep on top of all of the information!

TISC

TISC will open on 1 May.

Early Offers will start after the Semester One exams and most offers are conditional on meeting requirements. These will be laid out in their offer letters.

The Careers Department

Students in Years 10, 11 and 12 have access to The Careers Department. There is a huge wealth of information on this site, where students can explore industries in depth to find out more about the careers and industries they are interested in. It also has a resume builder, digital portfolio, virtual work experience, scholarship finder, job finder and micro-credentialing opportunities. So much to explore!

As parents, you also have access to these resources. Your account will be linked to your son’s account, allowing you to explore together.

There are two ways to connect to your son’s account.

1. Students can invite their parents from their 'Profile' > 'Your account' > scroll to the bottom of this page and add their parent's email address.

2. Go to the login page and follow the prompts to set up an account. Once inside, you will be directed to explore the site and link to your child's account. Your child should already have an active student account, so you will not need to pay for the platform. If he hasn’t registered, do this first. You will need to enter the correct email address according to your son’s account and your son will need to accept the connection.
