Chaplain's Corner 2024

In the past weeks, every time we have turned on the tv there has been some nasty stories.  As parents and carers this must play on our minds, where the world is heading and how are our kids are going to survive in it?

Have you ever wondered or imagine what kind of adult they are going to grow up to be? Would you like to see them as a kind, caring thoughtful individual? The person that holds the door open for others, helps the elderly, helps round the home and respects others.

With the help from a friend and author, Tina Williamson, who has given some great tips on teaching kids to become caring, kind, thoughtful and respectful, I will share some of these kindness tips across the next few newsletters.

  • Kindness makes you happier. It’s not all hippie talk. There are scientific studies to prove that kindness makes us happy. This study confirmed that performing acts of kindness increases your life satisfaction. The Greater Good says, “kindness makes you happy…and happiness makes you kind.”
  • Kindness increases your self-esteem and confidence. Kindness makes you feel good, right down deep at your core. This leads to increased self-esteem (and it just might make you more popular too).
  • Kindness increases your physical health too. Dr. David Hamilton, Ph.D., who wrote The Little Book of Kindness says that acts of kindness promotes emotional warmth. This is responsible for the feel-good hormone oxytocin in the brain and throughout the body.
  • Kindness leads to less bullying and a positive school and home culture! It’s just all-around good.
