Principal's Report

We, at Miners Rest Primary School, would like to acknowledge the Wadawurrung people of the Kulin Nation.

We pay our respects and thank the Wadawurrung people.

May we share your land. We promise to look after it, as well as the animals and people too.

Fantastic News

We are delighted with the very recent announcement, by the state government, that the Miners Rest community will receive significant improvements to the crossing of Howe Street for our families, allowing for safe cycling or walking to school.

Over the past two years, we have had families contact the school expressing their concerns about the traffic along Howe Street, and the lack of safe crossing avenues for children that are walking or riding to school. The voices of our parents were listened to and concerns were taken to local council and to our local member.

Our School Council has strongly advocated for attention to the crossing of Howe Street for a very long time and, with Martha Haylett's tireless support, the funding has finally been allocated to ensure the development of a safe path to school for everyone, no matter their residential address. Fantastic news for everyone!

School Camp

We wish our happy Year 5 campers, and staff, good weather, exciting experiences and lots of fun as they travel to Roses Gap next week for camp. Lots of preparation has occurred to ensure that this camp will be safe, fun and enjoyable for all.

Special Sunday

This Sunday provides us with the opportunity to celebrate the special women in our lives and take a moment to thank them for all that they do and all that they are. We wish all of the women that are special to us, in whatever way that may be, a wonderful day on Sunday.

Speaking of special women... pop the date in your diary!

Friday May 17, we will be hosting a very special assembly for our students to recognise a special woman in their lives. It may be Nan, Mum, a special next door neighbour or an aunty - the choice will be made by our students. We invite all of our community to come along at 2:30 pm next Friday May 17 and join us in acknowledging some of the special women in our lives.

Enjoy the rest of the week,

Kylie Nissen.
