Homework and Home Reading

Thank you to the many parents and carers who supported your children with homework and home reading throughout Term 1, we appreciate this support.

As we commence this new term, here is a reminder of the routines and expectations for homework and home reading at BPS:

  • All homework gets sent out on a Friday and is due the following Thursday
  • Homework consists of a minimum of 15 minutes of reading per night  plus the activities (Years 1-6, Prep is reading and some work work)
  • Homework completion is recorded on Compass in Learning Tasks for each student with one of the comments below each week and is accessible to parents and carers:
  1. N/A - No homework handed out or student absent for the homework period.
  2. Not Attempted - Homework has not been completed and handed in.
  3. Partially Completed - Homework partly completed or not handed in on time.
  4. Completed - Homework completed and handed in on time.

As with all student learning, homework may be differentiated to meet the needs of students and this will be communicated by your child’s teacher. If you have any questions regarding homework or home reading, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.

PLEASE NOTE:

*Due to the public holiday next Thursday, followed by the pupil free day on Friday, it will not be possible for students to return homework or teachers to send out new homework. Therefore, the homework sent home this Thursday will be for a two week period, due back on Thursday, May 2nd.

Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge

The Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge is once again open for 2024 and will remain open until September 6th.

Here’s a welcome letter from Victorian Premier, Jacinta Allan:

Dear parents, carers and families,

Welcome to the 2024 Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge. Since it began, more than 4.3 million young Victorians have read more than  60 million books!

This year’s Challenge is about reading as many different books as possible, discovering new ideas and new favourites. There are different goals for different reading levels, and thousands of books to choose from on the Premiers’ Reading Challenge booklist.

Every young Victorian can take part in the Challenge regardless of their reading ability or preferred format. Visit the Including all students webpage for more information. You can also join the Victorian Premiers’ Reading Challenge Facebook page for Challenge updates and ideas. At the end of the Challenge, participants will receive a certificate, signed by me and past Premiers.

I hope you and your child enjoy being part of the 2024 Premiers’ Reading Challenge. Explore. Learn. Most importantly, enjoy.

Happy reading,
