Prep Newsletter - Term 3

Students have returned to school full of energy and ready to learn as we begin Term 3!

This week, we had a fantastic time celebrating 100 days of Prep! The students entered the classroom buzzing with excitement, ready for a day full of fun and learning. We marked the occasion with a range of themed activities—creating necklaces using 100 Cheerios, writing about what we would do with $100, and drawing ourselves now compared to what we think we’ll look like at 100 years old! It was a wonderful way to reflect on how far the students have come and celebrate all they’ve achieved so far this year.

So far this term, our young writers have been working hard on using known graphemes to sound out words and improve their letter formation. We have also been focusing on writing modelled sentences to help students build confidence and structure in their writing. A highlight was our 100 Days of School writing task, where students were challenged to imagine what they would do with $100. From buying mountains of ice-cream, Barbie's dream house or a brand new lambourgini, their ideas were creative and full of personality! Although they may be disappointed when they grow up and realise $100 doesn’t stretch as far as they think!

In Mathematics, we have been building our counting skills by focusing on collections of up to 20. Students have been practicing one-to-one correspondence, carefully counting each item to ensure accuracy. These skills were extended as we explored counting to 100 in celebration of our 100 Days of School. As part of the festivities, students created necklaces by counting out and threading 100 Cheerios—an engaging and hands-on way to apply their counting knowledge. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence and number sense grow each week.

Welcome Circles

Each morning in Prep, we’ve introduced a new routine called our Welcome Circle. This daily practice helps us start the day in a calm, positive and connected way. As we come into class, we gather together to share greetings, sing a fun and upbeat morning song or take part in a short activity, and go through our daily schedule and bulletin. It’s a wonderful opportunity to build class community, set a positive tone, and focus on “what went well” in our morning. Please remember how important it is to arrive at school on time so your child doesn’t miss out on this special part of our day!

Class Pet

This term, we are also excited to introduce our special class pets! Prep A will be taking home Bluey, Prep B has Bubbles, and Prep C will be joined by Tiny Ted. Each weekend, one lucky student will have the chance to take their class pet home and enjoy some fun adventures together. We are so excited to hear all about the wonderful things they get up to with you and your families!
