Prep
In Term 3, Prep students will participate in the units Run, Jump, Leap & Dodge and Catch & Throw.
In the Run, Jump, Leap & Dodge unit, students will first develop each skill in isolation, then apply them during small group games. The Catch & Throw unit will build on skills introduced in Semester 1. Students will practise each skill using a variety of equipment and then apply them individually or with a partner. Throughout the term, students will also begin to understand the importance of boundaries and rules, and practise working cooperatively with a partner or in small groups.
Grade 1/2
In Term 3, Grade 1/2 students will participate in the units Run, Jump, Leap & Dodge and Bounce.
Students will first practise the movement skills in isolation, then apply them in minor games with increased pressure. In the Bounce unit, students will develop their dribbling technique and learn to perform the skill while under pressure. This term also introduces the concepts of fair play and good sportsmanship.
Grade 3/4
In Term 3, Grade 3/4 students will participate in the units Fitness and Target Games.
In the Fitness unit, students will explore cardio and resistance training and learn about the benefits of regular physical activity by completing a range of fitness circuits. In Target Games, students will play games that involve scoring by sending an object towards a target. These activities will challenge students to calculate distances, avoid obstacles, develop problem-solving skills, and work cooperatively in small groups.
Grade 5/6
In Term 3, Grade 5/6 students will participate in the units Fitness and Invasion Games.
The Fitness unit will focus on improving cardiovascular fitness and building strength and endurance across the core, upper, and lower body. Students will learn about cardio and resistance training and understand the long-term benefits of staying active. In Invasion Games, students will take part in a variety of modified small-sided games that require effective communication and teamwork. These games will involve running, dodging, throwing, and catching, while also developing tactical skills such as moving into space and maintaining possession.
