Congratulations to the following Year 12 students for setting new records at the TCS Athletics:
Our senior netball team proudly represented St Mary’s at QISSN 2025, held in Bundaberg during the first week of the school holidays. As one of the largest secondary school netball carnivals in Australia, QISSN brings together teams from Catholic and Independent schools across Queensland.
Despite facing challenges in the lead-up to the event, our girls showed resilience, teamwork and heart. Competing in a higher division than previous years, they remained strong throughout the tournament, securing impressive wins and battling through some close games, including a nail-biting overtime match on Day Four.
Special Congratulations:
A huge thank you to everyone who supported this journey — our amazing parents, sponsors, and supporters.
A special shout-out to our fantastic team manager, Mrs McPhee-Smith, for her invaluable help on and off the court. A huge thank you also to Ms Tindall for your dedication and commitment to training our team for six months leading into the tournament — your guidance and support played a vital role in our performance. We are incredibly proud of our team and all they accomplished this week!
A huge thank you to our incredible College Sport Program Sponsors for their support this year: Brothers, Lane Orthodontics, Family Connect, WMU-EV2, Gridline, Kinectic, LYSAGHT, EK Design Kitchens, EFM Health Clubs Cairns, Brown and Hurley Agriculture, and Intersport.
We’re incredibly proud to share that our very own Year 9 student, Dylan, was named Captain of the Peninsula 14–15 Years Rugby Union team, proudly representing our region recently at the State Schools Sport Competition.
While the team didn’t take out the overall title, they were named Country Cup Winners, a fantastic achievement that recognises them as the top regional team in the tournament!
During the school holidays, three of our talented Year 8 students – Tristan, Logan, and Blake – represented the Cairns 1 team at the U14 Boys Hockey State Championships in Rockhampton.
The team went undefeated in their pool, showing incredible teamwork and skill. After two close matches in the finals, including a narrow 1–0 loss to Brisbane from a penalty stroke, the boys showed great perseverance and secured an impressive 3rd place finish against Mackay.
We’re so proud of their efforts and the way they represented our region and our College!
