Canberra - Civics & Citizenship Excursion

Stage 3 Canberra Excursion

Late last term, our Stage 3 students embarked on an unforgettable adventure to Canberra! Despite the freezing temperatures, spirits were high as we explored some of Australia’s most iconic institutions. From the halls of Parliament House to the interactive exhibits at Questacon, students had a blast learning about our nation's history, government, and science.

Highlights included visits to the Electoral Education Centre, Australian War Memorial, Royal Australian Mint, and the National Museum of Australia. Each stop offered unique insights and hands-on experiences that brought Civics and Citizenship education to life.

We were fortunate to have a fantastic bus driver and our wonderful teachers who made the trip smooth, safe, and incredibly fun.

The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians visiting the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion, the Government is contributing $30 per student under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate (PACER) program. This rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Thank you to everyone who helped make this excursion such a memorable learning experience!

Public Speaking Has Begun at Holy Family!

This week marks the exciting start of our Public Speaking Program at Holy Family! From Kindergarten to Year 6, every student will have the opportunity to participate and develop essential communication skills that will benefit them for life.

Public speaking helps build confidence, clarity, and critical thinking skills that empower students not only in the classroom but in all areas of life. Whether they’re sharing a story, presenting an argument, or simply speaking in front of their peers, each child is taking a valuable step toward becoming a thoughtful and articulate communicator.

We wish all our students the very best, good luck and have fun as you find your voice and shine!

Public Speaking Workshop

Year 4, 5 & 6 students have had a fantastic start to the term, thanks to a special visit from Mr. Matt Cross, who came to share his expertise in public speaking, our current learning focus.

Mr Cross taught us a range of valuable techniques, including breathing exercises, speech structure, and tips for building confidence when speaking in front of others. These are skills we’ll carry with us and apply in everyday life.

It was a truly enjoyable and engaging learning experience, and we’d love to do it again! A big thank you to Mr. Cross for taking the time to inspire and educate us—we’re so grateful for the opportunity to learn from him.
