Library News

Welcome back to our students and staff. It is great to see students back and enjoying our books, board games and spaces. Students are socialising, having fun together during the breaks and at other times can be found studying and reading in the library.
Meanwhile, just outside the library it is interesting to see how far the building of the new library has come since the end of Term 2.
Year 8 HSIE Reading in the Library
Reading in the Library continues during Term 3 for Year 8 HSIE. Once every two weeks students will come into the library and develop their research and reading skills. This term we are focusing on the key concepts that underpin what makes a place more livable. By looking at data and news articles. Term 3 reading in the library is a valuable opportunity for students to read and research the information that informs how places become more or less livable.
Reading, talking and listening to books
The English reading program for Year 7 and 8 is continuing again this term. We have a fantastic selection of books to support this program. To find their next read, we encourage students to come in and spend the time and share what they are reading with the library staff. We have ebooks and audio books also available through our library. If they would like to plan before they come to the library we have some great reading lists by genre. We encourage students to come into the library and we can show them how to find the book they would like to read.
Catching the Reading Bug
This term, alongside our reading program, we’re encouraging families to help teens, “catch the reading bug” with tips from beloved Aussie author Paul Jennings. Alongside writing over one hundred stories and being voted 'favourite author' more than forty times by young people in Australia and winning every children's choice award, he has also been an educator. He encourages parents to support their teen’s reading journey with these simple ideas.
- Make reading fun and shared by reading aloud together and chatting about the stories, even when they are teenagers.
- Go on an outing and visit the library together and let them choose what they want to read and do not worry if they are not reading the latest literary masterpiece.
- Keep it positive and encourage your teen’s efforts and celebrate their reading wins, big or small as these small steps can help teens build a lifelong love of reading.
Premier’s Reading Challenge ends on the last day of Term 3
This is a reminder to those students who are completing the Challenge in 2025. The last day for you to log your books online is 19 September 2025. This term we will be catching up with the students who have taken on the challenge of reading 20 books. Ten books are from the Reading Challenge list and ten books are from the students' own choosing. Keep going, come in and see us and use the catalogue to search our reading lists for books that will be suitable.
