Year 12 Careers Camp
On Thursday 24th and Friday 25th July, our Year 12 students embarked on their Careers Camp in Melbourne - a two-day experience designed to inspire, inform, and broaden their horizons as they prepare for life beyond school.
Using CYC City as a central base, students began their journey with campus visits to Torrens University and The University of Melbourne. These visits provided an excellent contrast in university styles - from Torrens’ modern, career-focused approach to Melbourne University’s rich academic traditions. Students gained valuable insights into course offerings, admission processes, and importantly, how bonus ATAR considerations benefit students from regional and remote areas.
The second day included a visit to Mirvac, one of Australia's largest property groups. Here, students heard from industry professionals about diverse career opportunities in areas such as construction, property development, town planning, management, administration, and human resources. For many, it was a chance to discover new and exciting career possibilities outside their current field of interest.
The final stop was the Melbourne Careers Expo, where students engaged directly with representatives from a wide range of tertiary and career organisations - including Ambulance Victoria, the Australian Defence Force, La Trobe University, and Deakin University.
Adding a sense of fun and teamwork to the camp, students took part in an Escape Room challenge on Thursday evening - a great way to unwind while building collaboration skills.
Overall, the Careers Camp was a valuable and memorable experience. With fresh ideas and greater clarity about future options, our Year 12 students return ready to make the most of their final term before exams begin in Term 4.

VCE Legal Studies Parliament Excursion
As part of their Unit 4 studies on the role of Parliament in law-making, our VCE Legal Studies students visited the Victorian Parliament in Melbourne this week. This excursion brought to life key elements of the curriculum, providing students with an insight into the legislative process and the workings of our democratic system.
We were fortunate to be hosted by our local Member of Parliament, Roma Britnell MP, who generously gave her time to share her personal experiences of law-making and advocacy. Roma spoke candidly about the impact she has had through Parliament and the challenges and rewards of political life. She also kindly shouted the students lunch, which was greatly appreciated!
A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to observe Parliament in session, where students witnessed a debate on the controversial ‘Post and Boast’ legislation. This supported previous classroom discussions about the process of passing laws.
Students were also present during Question Time, where members of the opposition questioned government ministers, most notably Premier Jacinta Allan, on a range of issues, including the current child abuse scandal in the Early Childhood Education sector. This gave students a clear understanding of parliamentary accountability and the robust nature of democratic debate.
The excursion was a memorable and enriching experience that deepened students' understanding of the theory and practice of law-making in Victoria. We thank Roma Britnell for her hospitality and for inspiring the next generation of informed and engaged citizens.

Food Tech
Our Year 7 students started the term in the Food Tech kitchen by preparing a vibrant vegetable share platter accompanied by homemade Tzatziki. It was a fun and hands-on way to get back into cooking while learning about fresh, healthy ingredients. A delicious start to the term!
It was also great to welcome the Year 8 boys back into the kitchen this week! We kicked things off with a classic favourite - burgers. They did a fantastic job preparing, cooking, and assembling their own, and the results were delicious. A great start to the term!
