LIBRARY NEWS

Welcome back to Term 3!
This is the term the library really hits its stride with Book Week celebrations which encompass many events that run throughout the term.
The celebration of reading, which is what Book Week is all about, has started strong with students enthusiastically browsing our newest collection of shortlisted books picked by the Children's Book Council of Australia (CBCA). These books have been nominated out of hundreds of entries to win awards in categories such as Picture Book of the Year and Younger Reader of the Year and others. Each book is written or illustrated by an Australian creator and covers topics from culture to travel, connection to country and even a humorous recount of the first female politicians in Parliament who didn't have their own 'loo' to use back in 1943.
Students K-6 have been busy recreating their own persuasive letters encouraging kids to eat fruit and vegetables after reading a rather hilarious story by Jo Dabrowski titled Dear Broccoli. The book follows a child, Frank, who writes a letter to broccoli voicing his displeasure at its appearance on his dinner plate every night. This story has engaged and delighted all of our students and provoked many amusing tales and facial expressions as they share their own fruit and vegetable preferences with each other.
Other events occurring to mark Book Week include a staff Guess Who competition where students will guess which staff member is hiding behind their favourite book. This fun game will have students doing all they can to guess who is who!
Students will continue the fun on Wednesday, August 26th, with the annual Book Character Parade. Families are warmly invited to come and watch as students parade under the Kinder COLA in a costume of their choosing. We are looking forward to seeing characters from the students' favourite books come to life! More details (exact times) of this will come but students are already brainstorming their outfits!
After the parade, families are invited to visit the library where the Book Fair will be open. Come down and browse through wonderful new books to grow your child's library. The Book Fair will also be open from 3pm on the following dates: 24/8, 25/8, 26/8 (week 6) and 31/8, 1/9, 2/9 (week 7). All payments for products at the Fair will be made electronically via Tap n Go on a staff member's phone. We look forward to having you!
