Dear Parents and Carers,
Welcome back Term Two at St Brendan’s. I hope you all had a restful break and are feeling recharged for what promises to be a vibrant and busy term. It is wonderful to see our classrooms and playground filled with energy once again as we dive into a new season of learning.
As we look back on the end of last term, I want to extend a profound thank you to our staff and students for the beautiful Holy Week ceremony they prepared and shared. It was a deeply moving experience that truly captured the spirit of our community. The reverence and heart shown by our students made it a standout moment for St Brendan’s, providing us all with a beautiful space for prayer and reflection. I thank the many parents and grandparents who were able to attend for their ongoing support of everything we do at school.
I would like to extend my sincere thanks to our Deputy Principal, Bernie Turner, our leadership team and our entire staff for the wonderful way they worked together while I was absent during the last week of term due to my wrist surgery. I feel extremely privileged to work with such a dedicated team.
We also celebrated a fantastic display of athleticism and school spirit at our whole school Cross Country event that was held under sunny skies last Friday.Congratulations to all the students who participated with such determination, and a huge thank you to Tom Porter, our P.E teacher and the staff and parent helpers who worked behind the scenes and on the day to make the event run so smoothly. Events like these remind us of the strength of our community.
It was truly heartening to see so many members of our school community gather in the quiet chill of the early morning for the Somerville ANZAC Day Dawn service. Standing together as a community to honour the legacy of the ANZACs is always a significant moment but this year felt particularly poignant. I felt an immense sense of pride watching two of our School Captains, Willow G and Sam B, represent St Brendan’s with such grace and maturity. Their respectful reading of "In Flanders Fields," followed by the laying of our school wreath, was a highlight of what was a deeply moving and special ceremony. Seeing our young leaders step up with such reverence reminds us all of the enduring importance of remembrance, gratitude and respect.

Our first assembly for Term Two, hosted by the Year 1/2 B class, was a wonderful celebration of student leadership and learning. A special mention must go to the amazing Jess Murphy from Year 4, who stepped in beautifully in the absence of our school captains to lead us in the Acknowledgement of Country and our School Prayer. Thanks also to Talia M who so capably presented all the student awards.
The Year 1/2 students then took the stage to proudly showcase their hard work from across the curriculum. We were treated to an impressive Auslan demonstration of how to sign various bodies of water, followed by a clever English presentation on the use of alliteration. In Inquiry, the students shared how they have been exploring our local area by labelling maps of the Mornington Peninsula with their favourite places. Finally, they showcased their growing Maths skills, explaining the symbols for addition, subtraction, and equals, while demonstrating their proficiency in partitioning and number fact families. It was a joy to see their confidence and enthusiasm on display. Congratulations to Ms Barber and her beautiful class.

As the weather begins to turn, a quick reminder regarding our school uniform requirements. All students are required to be in full winter uniform by Monday, 11th May. This transition period allows everyone time to ensure they have the correct items ready for the cooler months ahead.
Thank you for your continued support as we begin this new term together.
Have a wonderful week.
Warm regards,
Sue
