Athletics Carnival

On Thursday, the 14th of May, our school held its annual Athletics Day at Sprint Craigieburn, and the entire day was filled with energy, excitement, and strong school spirit from start to finish. Students arrived to school in their house colours, and then got on the buses to Sprint. The atmosphere around the oval was lively and buzzing, with constant cheering, announcements over the loudspeaker, and students moving between events throughout the day.

One of the biggest highlights of the day was the incredible house spirit shown by everyone. Even when students didn’t place in their events, they still cheered on others and continued to support their teammates and rival houses.

We took part in five events throughout the day: discus, shot put, high jump, long jump, and the 100-metre sprint. Each event had its own challenges and excitement. The field events, like discus and shot put, required strength and form, while high jump and long jump tested coordination, speed, and timing. The 100-metre sprint was one of the most exciting events to watch and compete in, with everyone giving their absolute best in a short but intense burst of speed. Unfortunately, the triple jump was cancelled, which was disappointing for some students who were looking forward to it, but the rest of the program still ran smoothly and kept everyone engaged.

Overall, Athletics Day at Sprint Craigieburn was a memorable experience that brought the school community together. It was a day full of effort, encouragement, and friendly competition, and it highlighted how sports can build teamwork and school pride.

District Cross Country

On May 15th, students from our school went to the District Cross Country event at Merrifield. Everyone tried their best and showed great teamwork and school spirit.

We took 38 students to District Cross Country, and 4 students got ribbons: Ela K from 5/6B, Oliver R from 5/6B, Henry from 3C, and Darcie from 3A. Lots of other students also made the top 20.

From 9 to 10 years old, they ran 2 kilometres, and from 11 to 13,  ran 3 kilometres. Out of the 9 schools that competed, our school got 4th place overall. It was a great day where everyone showed encouragement and showed great sportsmanship!

At the start of the day, all the schools gathered around the track learn about the differences between the 9 to 10s track and the 11 to 13s running track. Everyone listened carefully as the teachers explained the differences and rules for each age group. It was exciting to walk around the track and get ready for the races ahead. The mood was exciting as students from all nine schools prepared for a fun and competitive day.

The first race of the day was the 9/10 girls’ event, and it was an exciting way to begin . Students from all nine schools cheered loudly as the runners lined up at the starting line, ready to do their best. Darcie ran an excellent race, showing confidence from start to finish. She worked hard to keep up with the other runners and proudly came 5th place, which was an amazing achievement and a great start to the day.

The next race of the day was the 9/10 boys’ event, where the runners were fast and exciting. The runners gave it their all as they raced around the track while the crowd cheered them on from the sidelines. Henry tried his best throughout the race and showed great confidence and sportsmanship. After a strong effort, he finished in 12th place, making his school proud for giving the race his all.

The next race of the day was the 11-year-old girls’ event, where Ela K was one of the girls to represented our school. The runners lined up at the starting line, ready to give their best effort. As the race began, Ela K pushed herself throughout both laps, staying strong and steady against the other competitors. After a great effort, she finished in 6th place, which was a fantastic finish and a proud moment for her and her school.

The next race of the day was the 11-year-old boys’ event, which was a tough competition. The runners took their positions at the starting line, ready to give it everything they had. As the race began, Oliver R with speed but paced himself, staying near the front of the pack throughout the race. He pushed hard all the way to the finish and achieved a great finish, coming in 3rd place, which was a fantastic effort and a proud moment for our school.

The next race of the day was the 12/3-year-old girls’ event. The runners lined up, ready for a hard race against good competition from all nine schools. Each runner gave her best effort from start to finish, showing great energy and sportsmanship throughout the race.

After the girls’ race, it was time for the 12/13-year-old boys’ event. The boys' race was fast and exciting, particularly as it was the final race. As they approached the finish line, many KPS boys pushed themselves the hardest they have ever pushed.

Every KPS student can be proud of how they represent themselves and our school.
