Cadet Camp

Our annual Cadet Camp this year looked a little different due to weather constraints which moved our location to school.  There were many challenges of having camp at school and all of our cadets did a fantastic job at adjusting to things along the way.  Monday and Wednesday we stayed at school, doing activities like first aid scenarios, obstacle courses and cam n con activities in the cricket centre.  While at school we also did our night games in the stadiums and with the help of the PAC, a movie night for all the cadets to enjoy.

Monday featured our ration pack bake off where the platoons split into sections and created a dish each, showing off their cooking skills and using what they have to make something edible.

Tuesday we headed out field early in the morning, doing a rotation of activities including, Field Engineering, Ex Zeigler, Ex Silence, and Ex Wakey.  The cadets had a great time, everyone enjoying themselves and making the most of the decent weather for the day, even Mr Taylor who got his own call sign.  We headed back to school to have dinner and stay overnight in the stadiums.

Thursday was different, we split up into 4 different groups, rotating through archery, exercise BOC, CFA and self defense.  At 2pm on Thursday the seniors waved goodbye to the Year 8s as they headed back to school and then home, getting a rest day on Friday.

The senior cadets stayed at camp, helping to pack up as much as we could, doing some archery and chatting around the campfire before heading back to school for dinner.  Back at school it was a lot quieter with only our seniors in attendance. We ate dinner and got into our stand down gear.  As something special for all the seniors, for their hard work over the week, adjusting to new timings, and us changing things on the go, we watched a movie together before getting a good night's rest for the day ahead.

We woke up Friday morning ready to go, packing things up quickly and having a special breakfast of bacon and egg sandwiches.  We boarded the bus and headed back out field. The first thing we did was finish packing everything, folding tents and sorting stores, ensuring was ready to go when we would eventually leave.  We enjoyed a game of Capture the Flag and a Navex, providing a bit of fun before we departed.  Eventually we got on the bus and did our final head counts before leaving May Camp for 20.

The week overall was really fun and definitely different for our seniors to adapt to.  I’m sure our leaders are ready for next year.

Ivanhoe Cadet Unit Visit

Ten of our senior cadets recently had the privilege of visiting the cadet unit at Ivanhoe Grammar School for their weekly parade afternoon.  The visit gave our cadets a firsthand look at how another school unit operates, from parade procedures and the opportunity to sit down with Ivanhoe's senior leadership, as they prepare for their Promotions courses in August.  It was a great experience for our leaders to visit another school based unit and to hear from the IGS Cadet Unit OC about the expectations that are required of their leaders. We look forward to continue working with Ivanhoe GS Cadet Unit.
