Dear parents and carers,
Recently, Monivae celebrated National Reconciliation Week. The Theme: "All In" is a call to action, reminding Australians that reconciliation is not a passive activity or solely the responsibility of First Nations people. These important observations invite us to reflect deeply, listen to the stories of our First Nations peoples, and commit to the ongoing journey of healing and justice in Australia. As an MSC and Catholic school, it is important to create environments where people feel “valued and seen for who they are”. National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June) invites us to reflect honestly on our nation’s history and to recommit ourselves to the ongoing work of healing, justice and understanding. Importantly, it also reminds us that reconciliation is lived through everyday encounters - through listening, seeking to understand, and making space for one another’s stories to be heard.
Last week, it was my privilege to attend the College MOCA Club 50 luncheon. Club 50 celebrates and recognises students who attended Monivae more than 50 years ago. This year, the class of 1976 were inducted. Many from this period had not visited the school since leaving and were astounded by the improvements made and were also quick to reminisce about the challenges they faced in their time. Monivae has a strong history of welcoming and educating students from diverse cultures and religions. Since 1954, over 10,000 students have received an MSC education.
As we head into winter, I remind parents and students to wear the correct uniform, including our sports uniform. Most students are wearing the correct attire; however, quite a few are turning up without their blazer on, or, on sports-specific days, in the wrong tracksuit pants. The school has clear guidelines regarding our uniforms, and I ask as parents and carers, that you support us in ensuring your student meets these.
A prayer for a shared journey:
Loving God,
May we continue to grow as a community marked by understanding, compassion and hope.
May we listen deeply to one another’s stories, walk gently with humility, and recognise the dignity and worth carried within every person. As we look towards the future with hope, may we never lose sight of the power of compassion, understanding and human connection. May kindness shape our daily encounters, and may peace and reconciliation continue to grow within our community and beyond.
May we continue to walk together with openness, mercy and care for one another in all that we do.
Amen.
Kind regards
