School Council

As 2024 comes to a close, I wanted to take a moment to reflect on what has been an incredible year for Weeden Heights. It feels like only yesterday we were gearing up for another big year, and now, here we are, celebrating all we’ve achieved together.

This year has been full of highlights, but four key achievements truly stand out:

1. Building Works

The completion of our building works has completely transformed our school. The fresh, modern spaces now reflect everything we love about Weeden Heights—community, growth, and innovation.  These upgrades wouldn’t have been possible without a collective effort. While government grants were a major support, many recent enhancements—including the beautiful new fencing and front concreting—were made possible by your financial contributions. Thank you for your support!

2. Academic Excellence

This year, our literacy and numeracy programs have continued to excel, placing Weeden Heights among the top primary schools in Victoria. This incredible achievement is a testament to the hard work of our students, teachers, and staff.

3. Community Engagement

The strength of our community has shone brightly in 2024. From working bees to the whole school camp, school events, and excursions, the involvement of parents and volunteers has been inspiring.  A particular highlight was the Weeden Heights Olympics. A huge thank you to Ana, Terri, Mo, and all the volunteers who made this event one of the best I’ve seen. It truly brought our community together in a special way.

4. Chilli’s Impact

The introduction of our therapy dog, Chilli, has been an absolute highlight. The joy and positivity Chilli brings to our students (and families!) are immeasurable. We are incredibly lucky to have this initiative through Miracle Paws.

As we prepare for 2025, I’d like to say farewell to our amazing Grade Sixes. We wish you all the best as you begin your next adventure in high school, and to those families leaving us for the last time, thank you, and you’ll always be part of the Weeden Heights family.

Thank you to our School Council, PFA, and every volunteer for your contributions this year. Your time and effort—often behind the scenes—are invaluable and deeply appreciated. I encourage anyone with the time to consider joining these groups in 2025.

It’s a rewarding way to help our school continue to thrive.

Finally, I’d like to thank our principal, Ms. Campbell, our business manager Kerryn, and our wonderful teachers and staff. Your dedication and hard work have made 2024 another fantastic year of learning and growth for our students.

Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and a safe, happy New Year. Here’s to an even better 2025!

Warm regards,

Gavin Hodgins
