Transition Day
Preparing Grade 6 Students for the Transition to Year 7
At Christway College Kingston, we know the move from Grade 6 to Year 7 can feel exciting and a little overwhelming. To support our students, we have been holding half-day introductions to Secondary school life. We recently held a special full-day transition day where Grade 6 students experienced more of a taste of Secondary school. Through hands-on activities and engaging lessons, they began building the confidence they’ll need for this next step.
The day included several activities led by Secondary teachers, giving students the chance to explore new subjects and environments:
- Pre-Bootcamp: An introduction to Secondary school expectations, focusing on being ready, respectful and responsive - key values in our school community.
- STEAM Class: Students explored science, technology, engineering, arts and maths, using teamwork and creativity to solve real-world problems.
- Maths and Robotics: From solving puzzles to programming robots, students experienced some interactive and exciting sides of learning in Year 7.
These activities not only sparked curiosity but also encouraged resilience and a growth mindset, helping students prepare for the challenges ahead.
This day was also about forming connections - with teachers, peers and God. Teachers shared their commitment to supporting every student as they develop their unique gifts in a Christ-centered environment. The Bible reminds us in Joshua 1:9: "Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go." This verse reassures our students that they are not alone as they step into a new season of learning and growth.
By the end of the day, many students said they felt more excited and confident about starting Year 7. As they prepare for Secondary school, we encourage them to embrace new opportunities, ask for help when needed and trust in God’s plan for their journey.
We look forward to supporting our students and their families through this exciting time and can’t wait to see them thrive in Year 7 and beyond!
