Donations for St Vincent de Paul Christmas Hamper

The St Vincent de Paul Society does a lot of great work assisting people and families in need in our local community. One of the things they do each year is provide families in need a helping hand at Christmas time with a food hamper. As we come closer to Christmas, we are looking to share the joy of Christmas with families and support the work of St Vincent de Paul by collecting food for the creation of Christmas Hampers in our local area.

Please help us to make Christmas a special time for all, by donating nonperishable foods that families can enjoy over the Christmas season. These may include festive foods such as Christmas puddings, candy canes, salsa, chips, biscuits, chocolates and lollies…as well as foods that families can use to create a meal such as flour, sugar, pasta, rice, tins of soup, jelly, powdered custard and gravy… and long life juices and soft drinks…

Please send in all donations by Friday 6 December, as we will be presenting items donated to St Vincent de Paul at our morning assembly on Friday 6 December, so that Vinnies have a chance to package and deliver them before Christmas.

Christ the King

This Sunday 24 November we celebrate Christ the King. This is the last Sunday of the current Liturgical Year and the following Sunday is the First Sunday of Advent and the start of the new liturgical year. The liturgical year celebrates the story of Jesus beginning with the preparations for his birth.

First Sunday of Advent

Sunday 1 December is the First Sunday of Advent and the start of the new liturgical year. On the First Sunday of Advent we light the first candle on the Advent Wreath, a purple candle which we call The Prophets’ Candle. When we light the Prophets’ Candle we remember all of the special people who prepared for the coming of the saviour. Pictured here are Erica and Max with the Advent Wreaths they made last year in Kindergarten.

Happy Birthday Father Curran

Cornerstones is a Religious Education Course run by the Broken Bay Institute. Legends of the Light Shine

Our new Legends of the Light Shine focus for Weeks 7 and 8 of Term 4 is “Kindness”. Our kindness theme compliments our Lightshine7 focus where in Week 7 of each term we focus on acts of kindness and service, responding to Jesus’ call to all of us to live lives of love and service. As we start to focus on presents at this time of year, may we also focus on our presence as a present to others of kindness as we love and serve one another.

The Platy-Project

The Australian Conservation Foundation is encouraging communities to get involved with The Platy Project. The platy-project encourages community members to log online when and where they have spotted platypus in an effort to understand the platypus more and prevent further declines in their numbers.

At St Michael’s we are very passionate about caring for the environment and all of the people, animals and plants and we encourage everyone who has spotted platypus recently to go to the The Platy Project website and record these sightings, as we work together to look after this very cute and uniquely Australian animal.
