Year 1/2 Cluster News
TTake Home Books changed on MONDAYS
Many students are not bringing in their home reading books or Take Home Folder on Mondays. For our system to work, could you please ensure their folder is at school on Mondays. We do not remind students on other days. Students are encouraged to borrow 4 books a week.
Sunscreen, Hats, Water Bottles
With the lovely sunny weather comes high UV rating and the recommendation for sunscreen. We encourage sunscreen be applied at home and then children top up before recess in class. If your child cannot wear the school supplied Woolworths brand sunscreen, please pack a labelled container in your child’s bag.
Basketball
U8 Basketball – We are looking for some more female players for our Super Novas Basketball Team. They train on Mondays after school usually with games on Saturdays at local venues. Swimming Lessons for F-2 Tuesday 3rd December – Friday 6th December
Notes will be coming home shortly. Parents are not permitted at the pool. Students will be getting changed at the pool this year. Please make sure you indicate if you will be collecting your child on the pick up form attached to the permission form.
Year 2 Camp
Thank you to all the parent helpers for your support. The students were fantastic and there was lots of learning about healthy lifestyles as well as lots of great relationship building happening within the Year 2s and with students and staff.
Carols Evening
The annual school carols evening is being held on Friday, Week 7 (29th November).
Home Inquiry
Create a new toy. Make a poster to persuade someone to buy it. Remember to use persuasive language e.g. exciting new toy.
Reading – We encourage approximately 10-15 minutes each night.
Learning for Weeks 7:
Literacy:
In Reader’s Workshop, students are reading and understanding poetry through reading popular children’s series’ such as Dr Seuss, Noni the Pony, Hairy Maclary and Llama, Llama.
In Writer’s Workshop, students are identifying features and language of persuasive texts such as advertising posters, book reviews and using these in their own writing.

Grammar Focus
Year 1: synonyms
Year 2: suffix er and est
Mathematics:
Year 1 and Year 2 students use skills and vocabulary to measure capacity and mass with informal measurements e.g. 4 smaller cups of water fill the larger container and they use balance scales for mass. They also look at properties of 3D shapes e.g. cubes have 4 vertices, 12 edges and 6 sides. Year 1 students then solve problems using addition and subtraction and Year 2 students use a calendar for time durations.
Unit of Inquiry: Where We Are in Place and Time
Central Idea: Changes in technology and family roles impact people's daily lives.
Lines of Inquiry
Similarities and differences in people's daily lives from different generations

Changes to family roles over time
Students are finishing their bookmaking and sharing these ready to take home.
Christian Studies: Christian Church
Key Idea 3: Christians pray, worship and celebrate the sacraments.
Students took part in sensory prayer stations last Friday, including a sand tray which shows how Jesus wipes away our sins when the sand is wiped over and play dough to create a model of something we are grateful. They will have the opportunity to continue to use the stations in class and then reflect on one of the stations which they enjoyed using.

Cancer Council recommends hats and sunscreen when the UV rating is 3 or above.
Library Borrowing
Class borrowing is on Wednesdays (Year 1/2Z) and Thursdays (Year 1/2AK). Students can borrow 2 books for up to 2 weeks, or longer if needed. Your child can borrow books on other days during the week, if they would like new books before the class borrowing day.
